-Men's Shed Vernon- Hands, Hearts & Minds March 31, 2019

Our Mission: We Build Meaning & Wellness into Men's Lives By Engaging Hands, Hearts & Minds.

A carpet of yellow blossoms up on Rocky Point Park at Turtle Mountain send a clear signal that spring has sprung.

It's here!! Spring has (finally) arrived! The streets are being swept. Motorcycles are out. Clothing is being shed. Did someone say Shed? Hey...I bet we can open "The Big Doors".

Actually, it was a pretty mild winter, except for February being seven weeks long.

Hearts - We Did Some Visiting:

Coffee time is important at "The Shed". We talked about upcoming projects, new relationships, "stuff" we would like to add, and of course how we are all doing.

Looking for....

Does anyone have a big BBQ in nice shape to donate for our socials?

Some guys from the Kindale Developmental Association dropped by to check out Men's Shed Vernon to see if they could lend a hand. They're going to be back this coming week to help us with a project. Thanks, guys!

Kal Rotary Visit.

It was a real treat to shed our shop clothes to accept an invitation to formally introduce Men's Shed Vernon to the folks at Kal Rotary. Julia Payson from CMHA and Ray V informed our hosts about the Mission and Vision that we have embarked upon to meet the very real needs of 6,000+ senior men in the Vernon area. Lyle E had samples of our benches and toys on hand. There was spirited bidding to take home the walking toy. Mike N and David F joined us to round out the MSV ambassadors making new friends in the room.

Stand by for more collaborations with Kal Rotary in the near future...

Jim Popowich from the Allan Brooks Nature Centre stopped by MSV to check out our space, and to continue on with developing a working relationship between our groups. Thanks for the visit, Jim.

Hands - We Got Some Stuff Done

First Mate Skiff Project - Progress

Dave S fashioned some framing for the motor well. Ray got them sanded up for installation. Paint was purchased to prime the sections that will soon be sealed as flotation compartments. I wonder what color it's going to be?

Murray & Jerry whipped up another special request for the Elephant Storage guys.

CMHA Partnership: David F and Julia Payson are busy putting the finishing touches on a draft for our partnership agreement. There was an upbeat meeting last week, as we look ahead at the prospects for Men's Shed Vernon and CMHA.

Minds - Staying involved.

Volunteer Help Required:

We all feel more like a team when we're pulling together. We have a number of projects coming up, and will need all hands on deck to get them done. Speak up over coffee, or put your name on the board beside the project you would like to dive into with the guys.

May 2nd: Seniors Trade Fair at the Schubert Center. We will have a table to spread the word about Men's Shed Vernon. Can you be there?

May 11th: Kal Rotary spring cleanup at Kal Lookout on Hwy 97. Men's Shed Vernon would like to help our Rotary friends. Come out and donate a few hours.

May??: Men's Shed Vernon BBQ Sale at Fishers Home Hardware. Lyle E has approval to hold this event. Date to be determined. We could raffle off a bench. We need some help to get an on line raffle licence, and some volunteers to put this together. It will be a fun way to hand out some dogs and hand shakes. See Lyle E to make it happen!

Men's Shed Vernon will be OPEN Tuesday and Thursday 9AM-1PM.

Come on out to the Shed this week, and see who has returned from winter travels. I look forward to rubbing shoulders with you.
