Talking Point

By Noël Maxwell, Librarian

God Is on the Move!

“Shankar,” a government official in India, accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Unexpectedly, he died shortly thereafter. All of his Hindu family and community knew his death was punishment for leaving Hinduism. They taunted the Christians, saying, “You claim Jesus can bring the dead to life again. We want to see the power of your God now!”

What could the Christians do? They prayed, asking God to reveal Himself. If this story was happening in the book of Acts, what do you think God would do next?

Come to chapel on Tuesday, September 19 to hear the rest of the story! God is building His Church in amazing ways around the world today. I will be sharing what God is doing in one specific Arabic country from what I learned at the International Christian Response annual meeting this summer in Switzerland. As you hear of what God is doing globally, I pray you will be encouraged to boldly fulfill the mission He has called you to!

but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

"Come hear how God is moving in mighty ways across the Arab world! He is working today just as He did in the book of Acts. You won't want to miss the actsnow Conference, Saturday, October 7! Special student rates apply. To learn more and register, click this link:

Tyler Sulfridge
Youth Pastor at First Baptist Church of Palmer

I have been at First Baptist for 13 months now. I work directly with the students from grade 5 to grade 12. I also oversee the children's ministry all the way down to new born babies.

My favorite part of the job is getting to work with people. I really love the people here and having the opportunity to serve them through leadership.

When I was in high school, I wanted to be called into ministry but didn't know if God was "calling" me. I loved the local church and wanted to be involved in it and did not want to do anything else. Then I read 1 Timothy 3:1, "The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task." I realized I had a desire and that I could walk towards that through what ever doors God opened.

My dad is a very gifted leader and having him to lean on has been invaluable. We constantly have conversations about the local church and missions and how the two must rely on each other. I was able to sit down with him everyday during my time in Tok and learn about what it takes to make it in ministry, which is prayer, people and diligence.

My future plans are to go to seminary to pursue a Masters degree which, like ABC, will continue to prepare me to lead the local church. My goal is to be a senior pastor and to use that to raise up leaders, emphasize missions, and ultimately lead people to Christ.

ABC has challenged the things that I have always believed just because "someone told me so." I am pushed in each class to not just make statements about beliefs but to see if those beliefs are Biblical.

I am continually amazed that in all that we do in life God has already set the example and standard. To all of my fellow ABC students; if you want to know how to love, lead, serve, pursue, teach, and LOVE people then look to the example of Christ. We read in John 13:3 that Jesus knew that He was divine and what His purpose on earth was. However, He still washes the feet of the disciples in this chapter, serving them. Then He tells them at the end of the chapter in verses 34-35, " A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another"

Let LOVE LEAD us in SERVING
