FMS Cross Country

Head Coach- Nancy Diers Cell phone: 641-919-0278 Email: nancy.diers@fairfieldsfuture.org

Requirements:

YOU MUST HAVE A CURRENT PHYSICAL, MEDICAL CARD AND CONCUSSION FORM ON FILE IN THE ACTIVITIES OFFICE BEFORE YOU CAN PARTICIPATE! TURN ALL PHYSICALS, MEDICAL CARDS AND CONCUSSION FORMS IN TO COACH DIERS OR THE OFFICE. Please let me know if you have turned it in to the office and I will check.

Weather:

Pay attention to the weather! DRESS APPROPRIATELY! When the season first starts, it will be pretty warm. Pay attention to when the grass might be wet and muddy. WE WILL STILL GO OUTSIDE. It would be a good idea if you had some old clothes and shoes for wet days. We need to be outside as much as possible, so even if it is a little rainy and muddy we will still go out.

If weather is too severe, Coach Diers, will make the decision to cancel as soon as possible so you can make travel arrangements. An announcement will be made as soon as possible at the middle school. Please check with the school by 2 p.m. to verify.

Injuries:

Please let the coach know if you are hurt or having medical issues. We will do what we can for you, but only if we know there is a problem. Being injured will not count against you, but please bring a doctor’s note so we know you are excused or have been seen by the doctor.

Uniforms:

We will provide you with a uniform shirt. If you lose it, you will have to pay to replace it. You will need to purchase your own PLAIN black shorts. You may wear undershirts, white or black please. Regular running tennis shoes can be worn.

As far as jewelry: Make sure all headbands are soft or plastic. Earrings need to be in the stud variety (nothing dangling). You may wear a watch but it cannot have a GPS attachment in it. If you have questions- please come and ask before you run.

Meets:

You will need to be dressed in your full uniform before you get on the bus for each meet. MAKE SURE YOU DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR THE WEATHER! On our home meet(s), we still ride our own bus over to Waterworks Park. When we arrive at our destination, make sure you get ready quickly so that you can warm up and stretch as a team. We will try to get to the meet destination in time to walk and/or jog the course before our event.

Your parents must sign you out before you can leave an away meet. If riding home with someone other than your parents, you must call the activities office before the day of the meet, or you will have to ride the bus home. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

PAY ATTENTION AT THE END OF THE MEET. CHECK IN WITH THE COACH TO KNOW WHEN WE WILL BE LEAVING. DO NOT ASSUME I KNOW WHERE YOU ARE.

Conduct:

Runners are expected to come to practice each day and give their best effort at all times. Disrespect of teachers, school personal, coaches and/or other teammates will not be tolerated. This is especially true at meets. Even if things don’t go your way, you must still be respectful to athletes and coaches from other schools as well as the officials running the meets.

WHEN YOU ARE AT A MEET, YOU NEED TO BE CHEERING FOR YOUR TEAMMATES EVEN IF YOU HAVE FINISHED. EACH RUNNER IS IMPORTANT! EVERY POINT COUNTS! WHEN YOU ENCOURAGE EACH OTHER, IT GIVES YOU THE EXTRA MOTIVATION TO RUN FASTER AND FINISH STRONG! WE ARE A TEAM!

Academics:

We will follow the FMS handbook on rules and regulations of passing your classes. School comes first, that is your number one priority! Cross-country is an added bonus to your day. All 3-week assessments and mid-term assessments will be taken seriously. If you are not passing your classes, you will not be allowed to go to the meets and will come to practice after you have met with your instructors.

Practice:

Practice will begin immediately after school by meeting in the commons area at 3:45 p.m. and will last until approximately 5:00 p.m. You NEED to have a ride here by 5:10 p.m. All practices are mandatory! If you are going to miss practice for any reason, please have your parents call or email Coach Diers as soon as possible so you can be excused. Excused absences such as illness or a family obligation will not be counted against you. Unexcused absences, such as skipping school, skipping practice, detention and not notifying the coach will result in extra running at practice for that individual. It may also result in removal from an up coming cross-country meet.

Please wear comfortable clothes to practice in and good running shoes. (All shirts will need to be worn during practice times!)

All runners should be dismissed at the last bell of the school day. Do not leave homeroom early (Even if the teachers say you can go- STAY PUT!)

Please make sure that you are on time to practice, or you will run extra. We will start warming up and stretching at 3:45 p.m., meeting in the commons area. You may leave your bags there for practice.

Thank you and looking forward to a great season. GO TROJANS!
