NEOLITHIC REVOLUTION- 8,000 BCE: the transition from hunter gatherers to civilized farming begins. People are planting crops and in return they have a very reliable food source. The more reliable food source led to increasing population. Before the Neolithic Revolution most people would live as nomads, never staying in one place for more than a few months. The first crops to be grown were wheat and barley.

INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION- The industrial revolution occurred in the middle-18th century. During this time people started looking to machines to do the work that they had been doing for thousands of years. During the Industrial Revolution, people started growing crops like turnips and clovers. It was much easier because the farmers didn't have to do all of the planting and harvesting by hand.

GREEN REVOLUTION- The Green Revolution took place in the 1940's. It was a plan to increase crop yields in developing countries. This goal was reached by using fertilizers, pesticides, and high-yield crops.

GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS- When a gene from an organism is purposely moved or changed to improve the organism. Farmers could then produce better crops more efficiently. Pro's: immunity to insects, heat, cold, and drought. Con's: food allergies, causes cancer, antibiotic resistance.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF FARMING- Subsistence: growing enough crops to support yourself. Sustainable: farming techniques that protect the environment. Commercial: crops and animals are raised for sale.

FUN FACTS- Mature turkeys have 3,500 feathers. There are 47 different breeds of sheep in the U.S. Pork is the most widely eaten meat in the world. The average person consumes 584 pounds of dairy products per year.
