Last Day of School Update

The last day of school for Mukilteo students this year will be Tuesday, June 25th. A total of seven days had been canceled because of the storms. Five of those will be made up by adding five days to the end of school year, thus changing the last day from the originally scheduled Tuesday, June 18 to June 25th. The school district has requested that the state waive the other two days, which is permitted because those canceled days occurred during a state of emergency that was declared by the Governor. Please note that Friday, June 21st will be a full day of school (dismissed at 3:25 pm) and students will be dismissed at 2:10 pm on Tuesday, June 25th, just as they would on regular Fridays of Learning Improvement Days.

From Mrs. Bumstead

Principal Update

It’s June! Time has flown by and summer is nearly upon us. As we wind down the year, we wanted families to know about some of our staffing changes coming in the fall:

  • Happy Retirement to Mrs. Jane Thompson! She has been a part of the Serene Lake family for quite a while and is now ready to enjoy some downtime. Don’t worry though, rumor has it she will be volunteering around Serene Lake next year!
  • We are welcoming additional staff to Serene Lake as well…
  • Paige Buchan is our new cook and is just now joining us at Serene Lake. So glad to have another friendly face in Food Services!
  • Ashley Ng, new to Serene Lake kindergarten, will be joining us from Pathfinder Kindergarten Center. Ashley has been around the district for several years, from Discovery and Pathfinder, and we are thrilled she will be our fourth kindergarten teacher next year!
  • Cable Smith, coming from Odyssey, will join us as a 1st/2nd grade teacher next year. He also brings a wealth of experience in the primary grades and will be a welcome addition to two grade-level teams.
  • Nancy Everroad, a veteran teacher in the district, is joining the 2nd grade team next year. Nancy has worked at Challenger and Fairmont in the district. She is excited to become a Sea Otter and be a part of our community!

Stay tuned…you never know what might happen next around here! in the meantime, have a wonderful and relaxing summer vacation. We will see you back in the fall for Sneak-a-Peek and the first day of school on September 4th.

Locked Gates

Campus Security Update

In an effort to better secure our campus you will find new locks on several gates around Serene Lake. The lock off the parking lot, as you go around the corner to the back of the school, and off the back of the playground (off blacktop), will remain locked at all times.

There is a third lock on the gate into the neighborhood behind the field. This gate WILL BE LOCKED from 9:15 AM (after school begins) until 3:00 PM Daily (prior to dismissal). While we wish to secure the campus when students are present, we also realize that families and the community need access. Please be sure to plan accordingly if you are thinking of coming to campus between 9:15 AM and 3:00 PM on a school day.

Yearbook $16.00

Got your YEARBOOK?

Extra yearbooks are available for purchase on a first come, first serve basis for any student who still wants one. We will have only a limited supply of year books for purchase at that time. Yearbooks are $16.00 each and can be paid for by cash or check.

Checks should be made payable to Kids Photography.

5th Grade Movin Up Ceremony

Congratulations 5th grade Class

It is time for us to say goodbye to our 5th grade class and wish them well as they move on into Middle School. Our 5th Grade assembly will take place on June 25th, 2019. It will be held in the Serene Lake Gym, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. All parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other special family friends are welcome.

News from the Nurse

Please arrange to pick up your child’s medication from the nurse’s office, prior to 3:00 PM, Tuesday, June 25th. Except for inhalers, NO OTHER medications will be sent home with a child. If you anticipate your child needing medication for the next school year please complete a new medication authorization form. By law, a new form is required each year. They are available in the school office.

Do you have a student going into 6th grade next year? If so, please be sure that your child has received all their required vaccines. According to Washington State Law, all children age 11 or older and entering 6th – 12th will be required to show proof of a Tdap vaccination in order to attend school in the fall. Your child can meet this requirement by documenting one of the following on the Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) form:

• The date that your child received one dose for the Tdap vaccine.

• Personal, religious or medical exemption. Contact the school nurse or your provider for the appropriate form.

Lost and Found

Please check the lost and found in the gym and claim your missing items before the end of school. Small items are kept in the office. Any unclaimed items will be given to charity after June 26th.

End of the Year Reminders!

The last day of school, June 25th, students will be dismiss at 2:10pm day. On this day we will send home report cards. If for some reason your student does not attend the last day of school, the report card will remain in the office and you can pick up after August 20th 2019.

In late August you will receive notification regarding the Open House in September. If your mailing address or contact information will change over the summer, please let us know so that we may update our files. The first day of school for the 2019-2020 year is currently scheduled for September 4th.

We hope all of you have a wonderful and safe summer. Our office will reopen August 20th with limited hours. Please feel free to email our Administrative Assistant, Susan Ditri at ditrisj@mukilteo.wednet.edu or call the office at 425.366.3500 if you need assistance or have questions.
