Congratulations to members of the PreCompany class who donned their “Peter and the Wolf”costumes and braved the chilly temperatures to march in the “Haints and Saints” Parade in Downtown Decatur on Saturday, October 27th . They represented the ballet studio beautifully! Thank you to Ms. Meg Gourley who organized their participation in the parade. Don’t miss these dancers performing “Peter and the Wolf” narrated by WSB - TV’s Nicole Carr, as part of DeKalb Symphony Orchestra’s Annual Children’s Concert on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 3pm, in the gymnasium of GSU’s Perimeter Campus.

Congratulations to choreographer, Kate Holland and Performers of the newly formed contemporary dance company, “soulstar.” This group of eight women are all alumni of the Decatur School of Ballet and will premiere their first piece in the “Lift” concert in February 2019!

Decatur City Dance

On November 10th and 11th members of the Apprentice and Junior Ensembles of Decatur City Dance presented their first concert of the season, “Classic 2 Contemporary” to packed houses. The performance showcased classical ballet choreography as well as contemporary ballets from some of your teachers! On the weekend of February, 9th and 10th , 2019 Decatur City Dance will present “Lift”, a modern, contemporary, jazz and hip hop performance which will include AboutFace (the professional contemporary and jazz company, directed by Toya Willingham), BareGrounds (a teen modern company) as well as the Apprentice Ensemble and Junior Ensemble, and soulstar (headquartered at Decatur School of Ballet, directed by Kate Holland). Community Connection

One of the missions of Decatur School of Ballet and Decatur City Dance is community outreach. On Thursday, December 6th dancers from the Apprentice Ensemble and Junior Rhythm Keepers of Decatur City Dance and members of the Rug Cutters, a teen swing company headquartered at Decatur School of Ballet, performed selected works for the delighted residents of Clairmont Place. Bravo to these dancers for bringing the art of dance out into the community!

Summer Intensives, Camps and Classes

Winter Weather Policy

During the winter months our Georgia weather can be tricky and we want our students, their families and our staff to stay safe. This year we will follow the DeKalb County School District’s winter weather closings. So if DeKalb County is closed, we will be closed. You can always make up missed classes in an appropriate level class.

Studio Demonstrations

This year all of our studio demonstrations will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at our Sams Street Studio. Classes that participate in studio demonstrations are: Beginning Tap (ages 5-6 with Ms. Birda, Monday 4pm), Creative Movement, and PreBallet. Stay Tuned…

This year our Annual Performances will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Ferst Center for the Arts on the campus of Georgia Institute of Technology (Ga. Tech). The dress rehearsals will be held Monday, May 13, 2019 – Thursday, May 16, 2019. Stay tuned for the exact dates and times for your classes!
