ABOUT SPIN THE GLOBE
Spin the Globe creator Sylvia Longmire is an accessible travel writer and licensed travel agent. She's also like no other travel blogger you've ever come across. Service-disabled veteran. Full-time wheelchair user. Entrepreneur. Single mother. Former Ms. Wheelchair USA 2016. Sylvia travels around the world, usually solo, and promotes the wheelchair accessibility of her destinations through vivid writing and professional-quality photos and video. Through her travel agency, she then books travel for her clients (most of whom use wheelchairs) using her personal accessible travel experience. Her sole mission? To inspire fellow wheelchair users and others with mobility challenges to explore this amazing world.
The vast majority of Spin the Globe’s readers are wheelchair users and their caregivers or family members. Most live in English-speaking countries, like the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia. Readers also have widely varying levels of experience with regards to wheelchair travel. Some have chronic and/or serious conditions, but many are retired seniors.
In addition to her blog, Sylvia's writing about wheelchair accessible travel has been featured in The New York Times, The Orlando Sentinel, New Mobility magazine, on Lonely Planet, and the Matador Travel Network. In November 2017, Sylvia published her first travel photography book, The View from Down Here, and the follow-up, The View from Down Here II, was published in January 2019. In January 2020, she published the first and only book on accessible cruising, Everything You Need to Know About Accessible Cruising. Her solo wheelchair travel memoir, What Happened to You?, will be available on May 25, 2021.
