A Day Devoted To Our Kids Day Two IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship

Tomorrow with be the big event, the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship. But today was a fantastic chance for the youth to shine and strut their stuff at the IRONKIDS Triathlon held at Charles Clarke Park.

These kids were on fire. If you blinked you missed them getting out of the water, on and off the bike and were in no time approaching the finish line. With their eye on the prize our IRONKIDS gave us a window into how incredible the future of the sport is going to be!

Of course it wasn't all fun and games. Even the kids got the feeling of what it's like to put it all out on the race course!

I saw some world-class running form out there. Young kids with championship strides already. Perhaps it has to do with the strong tradition of surf lifesaving clubs where from early ages they get experience running barefoot in sand. That just won't tolerate overstriding!

This guy was one of my favorites. I don't know if he was the youngest competitor, but he was by far the smallest.

He was also the final competitor to cross the finish line. Congratulations my friend!

We had a crack crew handing out the medals today! I was joined by elite athletes Annabel Luxford and Liz Blatchford both from Australia as well as Anthony Cortes from France.

Congratulations to all our IRONKIDS! Good luck to everyone racing Sunday at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships!
