Thomas Adonijah James was born on April 13th, 1847 in Charlotte, Washington county, Maine. His parents were Jonas James and Hester Ann Munson. His father was an immigrant from Carmarthenshire, Whales, making Thomas an old immigrant.

He married Clara Isabella Hersom on September 13th, 1879 in Presque Isle, Aroostook, Maine. They had 6 children in 12 years, 4 girls and 2 boys.

Thomas built his own barn and house for his family. He was a farmer his entire life, most likely using the steal plow. After he died his son Cyrus took over the farm, and the house occupied 2 more generations of the James family.

Thomas James died on January 19th, 1916 in Presque Isle, Aroostook, Maine. His wife Clara died 10 years later on May 26th, 1926, also in Presque Isle
