Happy New Year From our family to yours, wishing you a joyful 2017! (And if you'd like to read a bit more, please feel free to keep scrolling...)

Although some might say that 2016 was full of world turmoil, crazy political events and shocking celebrity deaths, the Holgates actually had a pretty good year. In lieu of a holiday card, we thought you might enjoy a quick recap of our top moments over the past twelve months—and hopefully bring a smile or two.

We had a baby.

Lewis Holgate joined us last spring and has since grown into a sweet, fluffy 50 lb. teenager who likes to go for hikes, take naps and eat deer poop in our yard.

Grace turned 9.

Grace is very creative and independent. She can be found reading in her bed most early mornings. She is taking piano lessons and playing basketball this winter. Grace loves to draw, write stories, ski, dance, make others laugh and boss her brother around.

James Turned 7.

James loves to be challenged and will figure out how to build anything. He is taking after his daddy when it comes to catching big fish. He has dabbled in football, basketball and baseball but mostly enjoys socializing with teammates. He is relentless when teasing his sister.

We had a summer full of Adventures.

We met Blake's family for a reunion in Island Park (near West Yellowstone.) The kids enjoyed playing with their cousins and went horseback riding for the first time. We explored Craters of the Moon National Park on our way home.

We took a road trip to Seattle over the 4th of July. Uncle James and Aunt Kelli spoiled us, as usual. We enjoyed sunny boat rides on Lake Washington, the Museum of Flight, a Mariners baseball game and lots of neighborhood festivities to celebrate Independence Day.

The kids especially enjoyed chasing their cousin, Dagny, around. This was the only moment she sat still the entire visit.
Uncle James, Aunt Kelli, Dagny (and Fitz who arrived a few weeks ago!)

In August, we surprised the kids with a trip to Disneyland with my dad and Cathie. It was indeed magical. And yes, Papa and Blake survived.

We went whitewater rafting and spent a few lovely weekends in McCall—all favorite summer activities.

There is no better way to wrap up an Idaho summer than glamping in Sun Valley followed by a weekend roughing it in the mountains. We hiked, biked, paddled and fished our hearts out.

What! School is starting??

Before we knew it, summer was over. But fall did not slow us down.

Our little gypsy started third grade; Evel Knievel started second grade. We love the kids' school and have forged many wonderful friendships. Thanksgiving was celebrated with Blake's family in Malad.

We had a few dance parties.

The apple does not fall far from the tree.

Let it snow!

We kicked off the ski season with 12 inches of powder on Christmas Eve.
James did not get his two front teeth for Christmas.....
But we caught Santa in action and had an excellent holiday with family and friends.

Which brings us to today.

So here's to another year of health, happiness and keeping priorities straight. Thank you for being a part of our lives. We are truly blessed.
