the monthly launch Keeping AIAA-UH In Your Orbit

Hey everyone,

Welcome to the first monthly newsletter of the semester. In these newsletters we'll give you a recap of what's happened in the previous month, as well as a look ahead to upcoming events. Clear skies!

- Fabio Andrean, AIAA Secretary

Upcoming October Events

Alumni Bowling Night - Come out and throw some strikes with former AIAA-UH members! Many of them are currently working in the aerospace field, so this is also an excellent networking opportunity. Food will be provided. October 18th, 7 - 9 pm, in Student Center South Game Room.

MOD Pizza Fundraiser - AIAA-UH is collaborating with MOD pizza for a fundraising event. Come have lunch or dinner (or both!) at MOD Pizza, and mention AIAA-UH when you order. If you need a ride, carpooling is avaliable through this Google Form. October 23rd, 10:30 am - 10 pm, MOD Pizza, 1911 Taylor St. Suite A

Halloween Social - Come take a break from the horror of midterm season. There will be spooky foods and deserts, as well as games. Coming in costume is highly encouraged! October 29th, 7 - 9 pm, in room W205 of Engineering Building 2.

Team Updates

UAV team had their 2nd meeting on October 15. The former Chief engineer and Flight systems lead came out to answer any questions the team had about the interior and exterior works of the plane. It was also the first meeting where people officially joined the team. The team is now working on getting the project started. A materials list and design of the plane is the first priority, and will be done within the next two weeks. Raising money, recruiting more members, and putting in orders for parts is another goal for the semester, as they want all material in before winter break.

Hobby Rocket Team - There have been some technical difficulties with getting into SR1 532 the past few weeks, but that has recently been resolved! Jordan Palmer, of the team members, is currently working on a thrust vectoring control program to allow a rocket to land vertically after takeoff! The manager, Jose, has made a carbon-fiber rocket and plans to launch it soon. Finally two members have bought rocket materials and are working on building them in the upcoming weeks. Meetings are on Fridays at 6pm in Science and Research 532, and anyone is free to join! The team also has a discord.

Space City Rocketry - The subteams and their members have been set. In the near future, testing will be done on different black powder systems for rocket separation. Propulsion is currently designing a Modular Motor Mount, and will start on a prototype in November. Structures is working on CAD, and avionics is designing a new tray to accommodate analysis. The form to enter the Spaceport America Cup competition was submitted on October 15!
