The Father of Historiography

Thucydides

Born: 460 BCE

Died: 400BCE (estimated)

Alimos, Athens, Greece

Father: Olorus

Father is an Aristocrat with ties to Thecian royalty

Mother: Igisipyli

Most people, in fact, will not take the trouble in finding out the truth, but are much more inclined to accept the first story they hear - Thucydides

Served in the Athenian Navy: 424 BCE

Was ordered to be executed after failing to protect Amphipolis from the Spartans

Went into exile for 20 years and traveled to Italy, Sicily, and Macedonia

During his exile, Thucydides wrote his history on the Peloponnesian War but did not finish

Thucydides' works brought to modern history truth and the ability to look at history as it happens with an objective eye

Historians are still trying to find more information on the life of Thucydides as most of his history is mere speculation and calculation
