Civics and Economics Unit 1 Vocabualary

Citizen: a person who legally belongs to a country and has the rights and protection of that country

Naturalization: to allow (someone who was born in a different country) to become a new citizen

Rights: something that a person is or should be morally or legally allowed to have, get, or do

Duty: something that you must do because it is morally right or because the law requires it

Responsibility: a duty or task that you are required or expected to do

Community: a group of people who have the same interests, religion, race, etc.

Government: the group of people who control and make decisions for a country, state, etc.

Civic: relating to citizenship or being a citizen

Democracy: a form of government in which people choose leaders by voting

Representative: having people who are chosen in elections to act or speak for or in support of the people who voted for them
