Kia ora koutou te whānau

We are almost at the end of week 11 and at the end of next week we will have had 12 weeks of term 2! In this 12 weeks we have transitioned through 4 alert levels and have seen a dramatic shift from not being able to leave our homes, to being fully back to school. When you pause for a minute to think about how much change the children have been through, it really is incredible. The resilience and flexibility that everyone has shown throughout this time has been very impressive. This month it was wonderful to reflect and celebrate the positives that have come out of such an unusual term during our first full school assembly after lock down. A huge thanks to all the whanau who supported this celebration.

I am sure I will see many of you around school next week but if I do not, I hope that you and your families have a wonderful school holiday break.

A0 have been having lots of fun learning about shapes while making shape monsters.

Parent Teacher Interviews

On Thursday 2nd July Parent /Teacher Interviews will be held in our School Hall. It will be wonderful to have the community together to share student achievements.

This is the time when you and your child meet with their class teacher and receive their mid year report. Please complete the booking form if you have not yet booked a time or feel free to call the office on (09) 274 8002.

Enrollments

If your child is turning 5 in the next 12 months (born in 2016/2017) please ensure you enrol them as soon as possible. With the roll steadily growing at Chapel Downs this will enable us to keep a track of how many New Entrants we can expect in the future. Enrollment packs are available at the office. Our term three New Parent Information Morning will be held at 9.15am on Thursday 10th SEPTEMBER.

B17 have been studying Jackson Pollock, an American expressionist artist who flicked paint across huge canvases. On Friday they created artworks in his style, but instead of flicking paint, they rolled marbles in paint.

Attendance

Our goal is to ensure that every student attends school regularly. Coming to school on time each day has a great impact on a student’s learning success. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day on time, and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life.

Children who arrive after the bell has rung at 8.55am must come to the Crichton Meeting Room next to Ms Malcolm's office to check in with Mrs Stewart. If they are arriving after 9.15am, then they need to check in at the main office. This means we can be sure all children are safely at school. There are times when your child isn't able to be at school (e.g. sickness) and it is really important that you let us know that your child is absent and why they are absent. Here are some of the methods of explaining student absences, either before or after the event, which will be accepted from parents/caregivers:

  • a phone call before 9am (09) 274 8002
  • a face-to-face explanation to either the teacher or office staff
  • a note (if you know in advance) that they will be absent
  • an email message to school via our school website -https://www.chapeldowns.school.nz/contact/report-absence
  • a medical certificate
