OM-D E-M1 MKii: Diplaying the Level Gauge & Histogram How to display the histogram and level gauge on the OM-D E-M1 MKii on both the lcd & evf at the same time

I started on this journey today to figure out how to display both the histogram and level gauge on the EVF and LCD at the same time. I knew there was a way to do it, but I hadn't quite figured it out. Here's my walk-through and how I set it up. Since I haven't used this in the field, I might come back later and refine my settings and the instructions.

LCD showing both Histogram and Level Gauge

First we'll set this up for the LCD. Hit Menu, scroll down to the Gear, select D1, then Info Settings:

Menu D1, Info Settings
Select LV-Info to change what is displayed on the rear LCD each time you hit the INFO button
The LV-Info options allow for 3 different settings.
  • Image Only - when cycling through, this displays only the image with no menus overlaid. I like this when I want to check that I have everything lined up correctly, mainly when shooting on a tripod in low light situations.
  • Custom 1 & Custom 2 both offer the same options of: Histogram, Highlights & Shadows, and Level Gauge.
I set Custom 1 to show the Histogram and Level Gauge
I set Custom 2 to show the Histogram, Highlight & Shadow, and Level Gauge

Here is what I get now each time I cycle through with the Info Button

Standard Display with no Histogram or Level Display
Display with Histogram and Level Display
Display with Histogram, Level Display and Highlights & Shadows
Display with no extras

Next, we'll setup the same options for the EVF. Gear Menu, I, Info Settings

Gear I, Info

The EVF takes away the Image Only setting and replaces it with one that says Basic, which essentially shows the settings for recording (Jpeg & Raw setting, movie recording setting, which JPEG profile you've chosen). I hardly ever change those, so I turned Basic off.

I set this the same as the LCD for Custom 1 & Custom 2.
Custom 1 - Histogram and Level Gauge
Custom 2 - Histogram, Highlight & Shadow, and Level Gauge

I wasn't able to capture images of the EVF with my current setup and didn't have time to put on a close focusing lens and go to all that trouble. If you've got this far, I'm sure you can turn them off and on real quick to see their effect.

TIP: If each time you hit the Menu button, it doesn't take you back to the last menu you were in, you can change that by going to the Gear menu, J1, Menu Recall, and making sure that is set to Recall.

This was my first time using Spark, it was really easy and fun. I also used Olympus Capture for tethered shooting for the first time. The entire process to capture the screen shots and write the story took me a little over an hour. Hopefully this helps someone out.
