Dreams JoSslyn maLdonado period 6

Theme: Dreams don't always go the way they're planned to be.

"""Do any women ever go to the fights?" she asked.Oh, sure, some. What's the matter, Elisa? Do you want to go? I don't think you'd like it, but I'll take you if you really want to go." She relaxed limply in the seat. "Oh, no. No. I don't want to go. I'm sure i don't." Her face was turned away from him. "It will be enough if we can have wine. It will be plenty." She turned up her coat collar so he could not see that she was crying weakly—like an old woman.

Explanation- Elisa dream was to be like others. But mainly for herself to be free from being “trapped” of not doing anything. Her being trapped by her own loved one, Henry from making her feel alone by speaking for her. With that, Elisa having no way of anything and just giving up on herself.

"Tularecito"

Evidence - “The heart of Tularecito gushed with joy at his homecoming. All his life he had been an alien, a lonely outcast, and now he was going home?”

“Half a dozen men crept up on the pit.Tularecito struggled like a wounded lion, and held his own until they stuck him on the head with his own shovel. Then they tied him up and took him to jail.”

Evidence - That is an example of how Tularecito had his set dream for himself but it was ruined for what was to be the “better”. Tularecito messed up his own dream by finding his dream. He had the audacity to ruin someone's law and without knowing they were cleaning his mistake of the whole and triggered him into beating a man to death. Which sentenced him jail.

"Of Mice and Men"

Evidence - "O.K. Someday- we're gonna get the jack together and we're gonna have a little house and a couple of acres an' a cow and some pigs and-" ... "An' live off the fatta the lan'," Lennie shouted. "An' have rabbits. (Steinbeck 14)

"And George raised the gun and steadied it, and he bought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennies's head"... He pulled the trigger." (Steinbeck 106)

Explanation - Those two excerpts show how something you want so bad it, also known as a dream, can all be for nothing. Both Lennie and George always dreamt about there lives together alone with all the things that made them happy and that one day they'll save money to fulfill there dream. But with Lennie slowing him down with the finances and always getting into trouble for what he is known to be as "feeble minded." So George took it into his own hands and risked Lennies life for his own sanity of life.

Real Life Connection

Martin Luther King Jr. "I Have A Dream"

This video is of a American Civil Rights activists Martin Luther King Jr. doing a public speech known as "I Have a Dream" during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963, in which he calls for an end to racism in the United States and and called for civil and economic rights.

How does it relate?

This specifically relates because 5 years after his speech in April 4, 1968, Mr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated for what he thought was right in the world. He was shot in the head with a rifle by a guy named James Earl Ray. James killed MLK because he did not agree with his political views of everyone being racial free rather than him enjoying the segregation. In conclusion Martin Luther Kings dream was deferred in a way that he thought everyone would come to conclusion and have peace with others but others protested and disagreed. Also the fact he died so soon he couldn't see what great affect his speech gave to others in the world and how much thanks they'd like to give him if he was still here.

Relevant - Everyone has a dream that they one day want to fulfill and will do whatever to succeed there dream. But not every dream is fulfilled because life has its ways of making it come true or not. A dream deferred some might say. Not every dream will come true.

Extra

Abraham Lincoln "The Gettysburg Adress"

http://www.history.com/topics/us-presidents/abraham-lincoln/videos/lincolns-most-pivotal-speech

"Slavery is an American problem. And the entire nation is suffering as a consequence of not resolving that problem"

This ties with MLK Jr. and how he wanted to make peace with the nation overall but rarely listened. He dreamt of a world with peace but couldn't see it because he got assassinated.
