A Look Back Crystal hassenstab's Art Portfolio

My name is Crystal Hassenstab and I have been an art teacher for 13 years. Included is artwork that I have completed through my undergraduate and graduate coursework. I definitely do not take enough time to practice my own art as anymore I usually only create artwork as samples for my student. Despite the lack of time I have for my own artwork, it does not take away my passion for the arts.

Undergraduate Work

Painting

Watercolors - These watercolors were created during my undergraduate days at Midland Lutheran College. They were my first experiences with watercolor.
Oil - I love using oil as a medium, however, I did not have any experience with oil paint until my undergraduate college years. It takes time to really understand and get used to the medium and I had more failures than successes in my first experiences. These are two works that I kept from undergraduate years.

Drawing

Charcoal - The assignment for this work was to create a metamorphosis. I originally came up with the idea of the woman and the horse but then when I had finished with that part the entire artwork needed more. I looked at my hand and decided to draw in my hand under the horse last minute to create this final composition.
Pencil - This was based off of a collage of magazine images.

Graphics

Final Photoshop abstract collage from my freshman year of college.

Graduate Work

In my graduate level painting course I was tasked with painting a cohesive group of paintings. I was inspired by the photos of sculptures that I took while traveling through Paris and Rome. I also wanted to experiment with using a variety of media, painting on unique grounds, and creating actual textures on the pieces.

Graphic Art

With my background and knowledge in the use of Adobe products occasionally I am asked to create some graphics for individuals. These are just a few samples of some of the work that I have done for others.

For Fun

Beautiful Memory, Acrylic on Window Pane, 2014 - I took the photo on the left while at Pére Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, France. I decided to paint the image on an old window pain to hang in my house.
