Week 1 - Edit to the Beat (NYC)

This was a rather difficult exercise to do.

For some reason, I wasn't able to see the waveform in Premiere. This has never been the case with Premiere. I tried everything, clearing cache, tool menu Show Audio Waveform, but nothing worked. Had to edit based on where the beat ended to my ear.

No Waveform in Premiere Pro

Other than that, it was a fun exercise. Not a fun start to the course, but I'm sure there is a perfectly logical explanation for the missing waveform. Maybe it was the fact that I downloaded royalty free audio from the web? Who knows...

Week 2 - Storyboarding

I've done storyboarding before, but never had a chance to truly think it through before I actually built one.

So, this is my first time sketching on paper and thinking about the possible outcome. What's exciting to me is that I'm actually attending this event tonight and I'm going to attempt to film excerpts of it on my phone to make this storyboard come to life.

King's Theatre Storyboard

I'm curious to see if I can bring this storyboard to life. Glad I had the template to help me organize my thoughts. Great exercise. Looking forward to the final outcome.

Week 3 - Final Rough Cut

This one took a little too long to put together. I was unable to record inside the venue. They were filming for a future dvd release. I had to improvise and use still images and drop the idea of an interview. So, this has now become an homage to the Beastie Boys' live show.

Very glad I recorded a lot of B-roll for this one.

I messed around with the audio a bit. Didn't want copyright issues since I'm using one of their songs. I placed a telephone filter in Adobe Audition. Hopefully my video won't be taken down by Vimeo.

Week 4 - Animated Titles

Sooooo much fun. I have always wanted to create some dynamic titles in After Effects. This was definitely the most exciting of the assignments for this course.

I mostly stuck to the video tutorial. Used my own title name and tried out the glow effect for the text to help it stand out against such a dark background. Looking forward to wrapping up this course and seeing some final videos.

Week 5 - Final Video

This is it.

I forgot how much I actually enjoy editing video. I spent all day working on titles in After Effects. Wish I had a little bit more control with the effects presets. I feel like that would make the tools even more powerful. Maybe I can edit them and I just couldn't figure it out.

Regardless, I spent a lot of time back and forth between Premiere and AE adding lyrics to each clip. Even though I wasn't able to do the interview portion like I had originally storyboarded, this did indeed turned out to be a really fun course and final assignment. I definitely feel a huge improvement in my Premiere and AE skills.

I think the resources for this course were better than some of the ones I experienced last year. Great improvement on the EdEx end.
