Black Mountain Elementary School Preparing students for the global stage

The Adventures Flat Owsley

At BMES, we believe that our students are well-rounded. We know this is because our students come from very supportive families. We also believe that this is because of our continued efforts to offer opportunities for creativity, critical thinking, communication, and service, through project based learning and the Arts. To continue this focus, we would love for all BMES students to participate in this challenge to have a well-rounded break.

  1. Cut out the picture of Flat Owsley.
  2. Help us fill our shared google map with pictures of your winter adventures with Flat Owsley. Just click the link below and click on the “add marker” icon that looks like this . Next, click the map in the location that the adventure took place. You will then be able to add a title, description, and picture of the fun. Be creative!
  3. Enjoy following the fun of other Flat Owsleys by checking out the map and by using #outwithowsley on social media.

If you are having a hard time coming up with ideas of adventures, here are a few that we hope we see:

  • Visit a state or national park
  • Visit the library
  • Visit the Arizona Science Center or Musical Instrument Museum (MIM)
  • Attend a play or performance (musical or other)
  • Community service - volunteer to help others in need
  • Arts & Crafts - make a gift and donate it to someone in need
  • Family Night board games
  • Cooking. Bake cookies, breakfast, or anything that Mr. Owsley wishes he could eat
  • Build a snowman (made of snow or something else)
  • Do a science experiment together
  • Hand write a letter to someone and mail it to them
  • Go for a hike or a bike ride
  • Build a fort
  • Have a dance party or sing karaoke
  • Put on a puppet show or play dress-up
  • Earn money by doing chores and put your money in a piggy bank or savings account
  • Visit a retirement home (read, bring treats, or perform)
  • Write and illustrate a book
  • Be creative. I am sure you can come up with some crazy fun not listed above.

Mr. Owsley is excited to see all the places he travels and things he does over the break. Let the adventure begin!

BMES is now enrolling for the 2019-2020 school year!! Please do not wait to swing by the front office to enroll your kindergartener for next year.
Preschool Registration now open for the tiniest Bobcats
Once again, the BMES senior chorus put on quite the show! They filled the LifeCare Center with music as the residents sang along. They then performed for the shoppers at Paradise Valley Mall. They gave us another reason to be proud to be a BMES Bobcat while making our community a brighter place.
K-2 were treated to a great musical experience through Musicfest. Too much fun!
Worksheet? We don’t need no stinking worksheet.
Students in Mrs. Maximoff’s 1st Grade class were given the task of making a machine out of recycled materials. This related to our Treasures story of the week and our upcoming Science Family Night. Students made a plan and choose six pieces of material to work with. Way to go future engineers!
Students learning cause and effect through coding. Too cool!
Let’s fill the house to show these kids that hard work and dedication really pays off.
He’s back...
That crazy elf, Alabaster McPrincipalpants, will be visiting BMES next week. Keep your eyes open and try to see if you can find him.
It’s a busy time of year - Plan Ahead
For those of you that want to plan WAY in advance for spirit days
  • Dec 19th is Pajama Day
  • Dec 19th at 2:45pm Kindergarten Winter Program Performance @ the Fine Arts Center
  • Dec 20th Reindeer Run (all students during their specials time)

If your child struggles with how to tie their shoes, try this method.

From our amazing PTO president, Jessie Spencer:

Greetings Bobcat Families!

Happy Monday Bobcat Nation!! We must have blinked....and it's December. DE-CEM-BER people....eeek.....how did that happen?? As we close in on these final few weeks of the semester and we attend the holiday performances, classroom parties and social gatherings, and we dash from one calendared event to another, I encourage you all to take time to breathe and notice the everyday moments that are happening in the space between the "big things". This is where the true magic lies....and where some of the longest lasting memories are made. This season is crazy, no doubt about it, but as they say....the days are long, but the years, they are so very short.

So what is next on the BMES agenda??

Here are just a few updates to keep you all in the loop as to what is going on around campus right now from the PTO perspective.....

1) We know you love to support Black Mountain Elementary school! We also know you love shopping at the The Mason Jar Boutique, dining at Harold's Cave Creek Corral and Cherry on Top Summit, and enjoying lattes at Local Jonny's Eatery and Drinkery. What if we told you can do ALL OF THOSE AT THE SAME TIME and even save a few bucks in the process?? Enter Local Perks....a Cave Creek founded business designed to support local business and local causes! Just a $20 donation....which goes right back to BMES....gets you started saving. Locally!

2) Looking to make a charitable donation before the end of the Tax Year 2018??? Black Mountain PTO is a recognized 501c3 and we would be happy to ensure that your tax deductible donation is put to excellent use for our Bobcats. If you no longer have your blue direct donation envelope that you received at the beginning of the year, please stop by the office to pick one up or email bmespto@ccusd93.org and we would be happy to get one to you ASAP! Thank you in advance for your generosity!

3) One of the FAVORITE events of the year is just around the corner......did someone say FIREWORKS??? Family Science Night is on the calendar for January 25th!!! Trust us, you do NOT want to miss this event.....put it on the calendar.....in pen....today!

*Looking for a way to get involved??? We can/ help with that!! Here are our current Volunteer/Donation Sign-Ups:

* BMES Dad's Club - email Mike Marcinko at Michael.Marcinko@fbfs.com

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to drop us an email at: bmespto@ccusd93.org.

Together, we can do more!

Cheers to an AMAZING 2018-2019 school year!
