Powell and Podraza Represent Scarlet & Gray at USA Volleyball Tryouts
Rising Sophomore Outside Hitter Adria Powell and Freshman Setter Mac Podraza represented The Ohio State University at the USA Volleyball Open National Team Tryouts. The duo travelled to Colorado Springs on March 1st to train with National Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly and his staff, in hopes of making one of three rosters of college athletes that will represent the United States this summer. We are very proud of the pair and the experience they gained over the weekend.
Lil Spikers Hosts 200
The annual Lil Spikers program for girls and boys ages 3-12 reached record numbers this year with over 200 athletes joining the Buckeyes in February. Campers enjoyed the opportunity to play under the lights of St. John Arena between sets 2 and 3 during the Men’s Volleyball match against the Loyola Ramblers. Our student-athletes did a great job coaching and building relationships with many young volleyball players, making it the best Lil Spikers camp to date!
Bucks Conclude Winter Training
The Buckeyes completed their Winter Training block Friday, February 15th and transitioned to Spring Training Wednesday, February 20th. The girls are working to build strength and speed with Strength and Conditioning Coaches Heather Mason and Chelsea Barr. Mason, former volleyball student-athlete at the University of Cincinatti, joined our program in the Fall of 2017 as the Senior Director for Sports Performance for the Buckeyes. Heather had a huge role in designing the Gene Smith Strength & Conditioning Center in the NEW Schumaker Complex. Barr, former volleyball student-athlete at Southeastern Louisiana University, joined Ohio State in November of 2018 as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. Chelsea is familiar with Big Ten Volleyball with recent stops at Illinois, Nebraska and Indiana. We are extremely excited about the progress our athletes are making in the weight room under the guidance of Heather and Chelsea!
