Lakeside Lightning Sponsorship Packages

Introduction

The Lakeside Lightning has been in the State Basketball League since 2000. During this short period, the club has been in 11 grand finals, and has won 4 Men’s SBL Championships and 2 Women’s SBL Championships. 2018 was an incredibly successful year for the club with our Women’s Team only losing one game for the whole season, they then went on to secure our clubs second Women’s Championship. Our Men’s Team also did well, losing in a nail biter to the eventual SBL Champions, in game three of the semi-finals.

Both our Men’s and Women’s Head Coaches, David Daniels and Craig Mansfield were awarded Coach of the Year in their respective competitions. While Ali Schwagmeyer won the league MVP for the third consecutive year.

Add to this there have been numerous junior WABL championships and awards. In our brief history, the Lightning have generally been acknowledged as one of the most successful and professional basketball clubs in the State. However, what we endeavour to do as a club goes beyond the court.

It’s often been said that “sport is a test tube of life” that the ups and downs, the adversities and what it takes to meet them head on, corresponds to what takes place in life. Lakers head coach Phil Jackson once said

"Not only is there more to life than basketball, there's a lot more to basketball than basketball."

Here at Lakeside we believe that the development of the whole person is just as important as jump shots and slam dunks. Lakeside Baptist Church owns and operates both the Recreation Centre and the Lakeside Lightning. Each week thousands of people move through the Centre to play basketball and other sports, work out at the gym and participate in other recreational activities. All our activities aim to provide a quality service in a friendly atmosphere. Lakeside is striving to serve and better our community. Through the Lightning program we aim to...

• Provide quality services and programs that develop and grow people in all areas of their life – Physical, Mental, Spiritual and Social.

• Make a positive contribution to our local community through basketball and its development.

• To provide a basketball pathway from domestic basketball to the State Basketball League. We aim to do this through the delivery of excellent basketball outcomes and player development.

Moving into the future we want to build on our successful on court achievements and service to our community, using the sport of basketball as a tool to influence and shape the next generation in a positive way.

Thank you for considering partnering with us in this endeavour.

Third Place

Lakeside is a place to connect and hang out with friends and teammates. It is a safe environment where people of all ages can meet on a daily basis.

“the third place is the social surroundings separate from the two usual social environments of home ("first place") and the workplace ("second place").”

Investing in Player Development

Coach Dave Daniels brings a significant amount of playing experience. He spent time with the NBA Denver Nuggets' summer league team. He went on to represent his country as a member of the Canadian National Team in the 1998 World Championships and in the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, Australia; backing up Steve Nash at the point guard position.

His coaching career consists of over 10 years of experience coaching college basketball in the USA. As well as being on staff with Athletes in Action.

He joined the Lakeside Lightning as head coach of our Lightning Men's and overall coach development for our club. He has already made a significant impact in his first year, bringing a wealth of knowledge and a culture of hard work and skill development. Dave took out the Men's SBL coach of the year award for 2018.

Coach Craig Mansfield won his first Championship as a coach this year with the Lakeside Lightning. He has coached over 250 WSBL / SBL games.

He has a wealth of experience in coaching. He has been the head coach of seven WA State Teams at Australian Junior Championships (2007 – 2013). He was the assistant coach in the WNBL for the Perth Lynx (2007/08 to 2009/10). And he was the graduate assistant coach at the University of North Dakota (2003/04 & 2004/05).

Craig demonstrated his proficiency by taking out the Women's SBL coach of the year award for 2018.

The Lakeside Lightning have both a Men's and Women's team that compete in the State Basketball League. Games in the SBL are held throughout WA from Geraldton to Kalgoorlie and Bunbury. These teams provide a career pathway for up and coming basketballers and a platform to positively influence players, parents, referees, coaches and spectators - "where it's more than a game."

A LIGHTNING STORY

Ash Grant

Small Beginnings

Ash first came to Lakeside when she was just seven. She started in Little Dribblers, learning the basics of the game.

Then she moved into Junior Basketball, where she played in various teams and grew in her skills.

Then she tried out for WABL, her skills improving as she went up the age brackets.

Then in 2014 she made her debut with the Lakeside Lightning SBL Women. She has won numerous awards in the state league.

WNBL League

Her hard work was rewarded with a development spot on the Women's National Basketball League team the Perth Lynx in the 15/16 and 16/17 seasons.

In 2017 Ash signed a 2 year contract with the Melbourne Boomers.

Ash continues to play for the Lightning in the off season and contributes to the community through coaching, being a role model and a leader inside the team, giving back to the community that gave to her.
