PARK HILL PREPARATORY SCHOOL THE DEERSTALKER ISSUE 59 - 5th july 2018

From the Headmaster:

Blink and you are in danger of missing the last week of term. With Sports Day and Prize giving to enjoy followed by the rounds of rehearsals leading up to what I am sure you will agree was a spectacular end of year performance from all of our children, it is a particularly busy time.

You will also be aware that our application to become an Apple Distinguished School requires us to produce an iBook documenting and evidencing how we include technology in to all areas of learning to enhance the quality of teaching and learning. Without wishing to bring back memories, it is the equivalent of a thesis in terms of detail and research and has occupied a large amount of time in the last three months. This has now been completed and submitted. We hope to have a response at some point in September; two long months of breath holding will now ensue! If (fingers crossed) we are awarded this status, we will join just 28 other schools in the UK and be regarded as a centre of excellence nationally and internationally for computing and technology.

This final edition (2017-2018) of the Deerstalker not only includes images from the performance, but also from our Sports Day and Prize Giving.

It has been a most enjoyable and positive year, with much to look forward to in the coming 2018-2019 academic year.

I hope that you all have a very happy and enjoyable summer holiday.

Yours sincerely,

Alistair

PS - On behalf of our head office team, I would be grateful if you could complete this questionnaire -

The deadline for the associated prize has been extended to allow more time to gather responses.

School Mini-Bus Transport

One of the exciting developments next year will be the addition of two mini-buses for the school. The buses will enable us far greater flexibility and opportunity to extend our trips and visits provision as well as allowing us to collect and return children at the beginning and end of the day. We will start this service in September and are keen to understand who would like the service and the location of collection. I would be grateful if such a service is of interest to you that you complete this questionnaire. We will then contact you in early August with precise details of the service.

Holiday Camp - West End Theatre Workshop

I am delighted to confirm that we shall be hosting a holiday camp, 23rd - 27th July and 30th July - 3rd August. Organised by Gemma MacLean and Amy West, the first week will involve the children working towards performing their own production of We Will Rock You. The second week will see the children working towards their own performance of Annie.

Gemma is a professional actress and has appeared in numerous West End shows including Annie Get Your Gun, High Society, We Will Rock You, Annie and Saturday Night Fever. Amy has a similarly impressive resume including assistant choreographer for Annie Get Your Gun and dance captain for Annie.

Full details and a Google Application Form will be distributed on Monday.

End of Term Performance

Any performance that contains references to perseverance and resilience can only be good. An opera, written by our very own Mrs Baillie was most impressively performed by all of our children. A video is being constructed as we speak and will be uploaded to our YouTube channel in due course.

Art Exhibition - iBook

As a lasting memory of the recent art exhibition I trust you will enjoy the iBook we have made containing images of the rather splendid artwork on display.

Prize Giving and Sports Day

Many congratulations to all of our children who ran, jumped and threw to earn points for their house; similarly, well done to all of those children who received an award for their hard work and achievement this year.

With thanks to Mr. Bergefall
