Desert Willow Elementary Learning for life and loving to learn September 8, 2021

Dear Roadrunner Families,

Hello Roadrunner families! We hope everyone had a restful 4-day weekend and we are ready to continue learning for September. Here are a few updates for this week:

Volunteering at Desert Willow

  • At long last, we look forward to welcoming families to volunteer on campus!
  • You can volunteer in your child's classroom OR any classroom. We have classes who really need it, so contact the Front Office to find out what classes need volunteers.
  • You MUST have a cleared background check. If you've had one done in the past, you can check with Ms. Trish to see if it's still valid. If you need a new one, you will need to pick up a volunteer background check form from the Front Office.
  • Complete a DWES Volunteer Expectations form in the office.
  • Coordinate a schedule with the classroom teacher.
  • Get started!!

Morning Front Drive Up Reminders:

  • Drop Off Time: Front drop off begins at 8:40 AM with staff outside monitoring and supporting students. Please do not drop off students any sooner than that because there is a huge safety concern with students not having any supervision.
  • Procedures: If families arrive at school before 8:40 AM, you are welcome to pull all the way up in the drop off lane, but students should wait in the car until 8:40 AM.
  • Drivers stay in their cars: Just like dismissal, we need drivers to stay in their vehicles. This helps maintain the traffic flow so everyone arrives on time and avoids issues on Cave Creek Road. Staff are available to open/close car doors, unbuckle seat belts, and help students gather their belongings when being dropped off.
  • We thank you in advance for following these procedures.

As always, we appreciate you for choosing Desert Willow as your learning community!

Respectfully,

Dr. Roach, Principal

Roadrunners are Respectful, Responsible, & Kind

This month, our school wide theme is empathy. We’ll be reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others’ feelings, notice and respect the same and different feelings, and show compassion. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.

You can extend this idea at home by talking about your own feelings and modeling empathy for others.
