SMS RoboticS

The SMS Robotics season is officially over for this school year, and what a busy end it was!

State Finals:

After the super-qualifiers in February were cancelled due to snow, our teams thought they were finished. However, we received news that three teams were selected to advance to the state finals held March 9-10! Wow! This would be the first time SMS teams got to participate! We arrived Saturday and were amazed by the other teams' robots, t-shirts, and sponsors! We spent the rest of the day having our bots inspected, interviewing with judges, and making last minute adjustments to robots and programming. The next morning, we attended the opening ceremony and matches began! It was a loooong day filled with successes, failures and LOTS of learning. Thanks so much to everyone who supported our efforts!!

5th Grade Visits:

On March 18th, all SMS Robotics teams came together one last time to share their passion and knowledge with district 5th graders at each elementary school. We hope to see a bunch of them when school starts!

We held our semi-annual Tic-tac-toe tournament, Thursday. The battle was fierce, but the players were up for the challenge. In the semi-finals, Sam Ellis took his undefeated record up against Landon Shippentower. Both Boys were confident, but only one could prevail. Sam took the early lead and used this momentum to defeat Landon in a best of three tournament. With the win, Sam became your second semester, 7th grade champion. With this, we invited Owen Dehart back to defend his first semester championship. Sam put up a good fight, wining a round, but Owen prevailed, in the best of three championship, making him the all around, undisputed champion of the 7th grade. With his new crown, Owen felt very good heading into a schoolwide championship against Maria Alvarez. When Maria floated into the room, the air itself held its breath. Though Maria will say she is not undefeated, the universe tells a different story! She made quick work of Owen, leaving him speechless and defeated for the second time. Maria remains your schoolwide champion and will take this title with her to PHS. Congratulations to all involved.
