5 reasons you haven't started your novel and why all of them are bullshit.

1. I'm not really a writer

1. I'm not really a writer.

Writers write. It's that simple. You don't need a degree or publications to be a writer. All you need is a pen and paper. Stop telling yourself what you aren't and start focusing on the what you can do.

2. I don't have the time to write.

Like anything in life, if you want to make the time, you will. Maybe instead of binge-watching the first three seasons of Sense8 you take an hour to explore your thoughts.

3. I don't have the space to write.

4. I have a great idea, but it's hard for me to start.

Everyone has an idea, but an idea isn't a story. The best ways to communicate a specific moral or argument is not to. Instead focus on a character.

5. You don't read.

Would you trust a painter who didn't look at art, or a musician who didn't listen to music. Writers have to read. Reading is key to feeding your creativity and developing your craft.
