Summer is right around the corner and for many junior sailors that means the daily commute to their local sailing program for a fun day out on the water! Some sailors who enjoy racing will even start traveling away from their local program to participate against competitors! Check out our list below on the summer sailing essentials!
1. Life Jacket
Having a life jacket, is without a doubt, one of the most important things to wear on the water during your sailing class. Many sailors like the Stohlquist Edge because it's not bulky but also extremely comfortable! It also has a front pocket which is a great place to store your whistle, extra sunscreen and maybe even some snacks!
2. Close Toed Shoes
Most sailing programs require close toed shoes for the majority of sailors, this is to prevent your feet from getting cut up on parts of the boat that could be sharp! The Gill Trapeze Boots are a great option because the grip on the bottom of the boots will prevent you from slipping on wet surfaces!
3. SPF Gear
Not only is sunscreen an important thing to put on before sailing but also wearing SPF clothing can save you from the sun's harmful UV rays too! Both Gill and Zhik make great UV protection clothing, they are up to SPF 50+ these are also sweat wicking and lightweight!
4. Hat and Sunglasses
Keeping your face protected out on the water is essential! Sunglasses are a must to cut the glare on the water and a hat or visor is great to keep the sun out of your eyes and the sun off your face.
