Big Competitions This Weekend for Team Image!

It's a big weekend for Team Image as the Junior line is in Croatia for the Zagreb Snowflakes Trophy. They skate on January 17 and 18! So exciting for the team to compete internationally for the first time! Good Luck Juniors!

Preliminary, Pre-Juvenile, Juvenile, Intermediate and Novice will all compete at the 2020 Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championship in Albany the same weekend. Good luck to all the skaters!

Here's a wrap-up of the final standings at Colonial Classic the weekend of January 3-5: Adult, SS1, SS2. Preliminary & Pre-Juvenile: Silver Medals, Juvenile & Intermediate: Bronze Medals, Novice: 5th Place, Junior: 2 Gold Medals.

Lake Placid ISI Competition

On January 3-4, YFSC sent 8 skaters to compete in the 51st Annual Lake Placid ISI Championships, one of the longest running ISI competitions in the country. The skaters were Sophie Lynch, Shaun English, Kayla Zollbrecht, Sofia Castillo, Sarah Whelan, Nailah Searight, Maria Vlahopoulos and Alexandra Vlahopoulos. Coaches Lindsay Palazzo and Christian Cavalluzzi were on hand to organize, coach and support the team skaters throughout the event. The skaters performed an Ensemble production, choreographed by Coach Lindsay, which had a "Greatest Showman" theme and took first place. This was our second year in row sending a team to Lake Placid and the club hopes to make it an annual event.

On Saturday January 11, the Yonkers Dept of Parks and Recreation presented the Lake Placid competitors and coaches with certificates from the Mayor congratulating them on their success at Lake Placid (insert pic here).

YFSC January Skater of the Month Grace E.!

YFSC is happy to bring back our popular feature from last year, our Club Skater of the Month! This month we feature Grace E.

Grace lives in Yonkers and is in 6th grade at The Ursuline School. Her current ISI Skating level is Freestyle 5 and her coach is Carolina Carreira. Her favorite jumps are Flip and Single Axel and her current skating goals are to master Double Salchow and Cannonball Sit Spin. Her favorite famous skaters are Ashley Wagner and Nathan Chen.

Grace’s favorite foods are steak, sweet potatoes and barbecue sauce and her favorite color is blue. In addition to skating, she plays lacrosse and volleyball. Her favorite subject in school is English and her favorite movie is “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.” Grace wants to be an interior designer when she grows up. She has one dog and her favorite holiday is Christmas. Good luck this season, Grace!

USFSA Test Session

Our next USFSA test session will be held at E.J. Murray Skating Center on Thursday, February 27 (time TBD). We will be running tests for Moves in Field and Freestyle. Watch our Facebook page, our website and your email inbox for more info once we open registration.

Power Stroking Class is Back!

The club's popular power stroking class returns to Murray Rink on Saturday, 2/1. The sessions runs for 8 weeks, until 3/28. You can register on our website or with the form that can be found on our bulletin board at the rink. The cost is $240 for the 8 sessions.

Valentine's Day Bake Sale 2/8

YFSC will be holding its annual Valentine's Day Bake Sale on Saturday, February 8 during morning lessons and the 11-2 public session. Donations can be dropped off Friday night at Club Ice or Saturday morning. We accept cash or baked good donations. Individually wrapped items are appreciated!
