Border collie's appearance is one of a medium to large sized dog with a wonderful color pattern of white and black hair that is some time curly and sometimes straight.
The border collie is normally not very big, but can grow to be very tall and fat dogs. Most have been know only to grow to the size of a baby bear.
The border collie is know to be very even keel when it comes to getting agitated and overly excited. This dog would be a terrible guard dog because of their lack of ability to get up and move fast.

Some female Border Collies can wait until 18 months and ocassionally longer. Average age for Border Collies to experience their first heat cycle is 6-14 months. The normal gestation period in dogs is approximately 63 days from conception, although this can vary by several days. A slight mucus discharge may occur around one month after mating. Her teats may become more prominent in colour and size around 30 days after mating. Similar to our “morning sickness”, your dog may vomit a little in the early stages of pregnancy.
The border collie has a lifespan of 10 to 14 years. They are prone to minor health problems such as seizures, progressive retinal atrophy, osteochondritis dissecans, lens luxation, hypothyroidism, patent ductus arterioles and Collie eye anomaly, and major ailments like canine hip dysplasia. A normal veterinarian would do work on this breed of dog.
