Knightly Knews 4/28/17 Friday, April 28, 2017

Another busy but great week saw 8th grade M-STEP testing coming to an end. I am proud of our 8th graders for their diligence and focus in doing their best. Next up, 6th grade ELA testing begins Monday. All 6th graders need to have their iPads fully charged everyday--parents, thank you for helping with this!

We also celebrated our two incredible Administrative Assistants, Jennifer Vente and Karyn Mroczka, this week. These two team members keep everything in the building functioning smoothly and they handle so many different tasks, issues, and people (simultaneously). We are a better community because of them!

Troybery Celebration

The 17th Annual Troybery Awards kicked it up another notch this year with videos, Skype visits, and in person talks with Troybery Authors. The event was broadcasted live throughout the district. Troybery's ultimate purpose is to inspirie students to read. This year's winner is OCDaniel by Wesley King.

Knights in the News

Smith students, Katie Austin and Anna Zhao, represented Smith's Green Team at the Michigan Green Schools ceremony at Oakland Schools on Wednesday. The plaque is for being one of 14 schools involved for the duration of this program, and is etched on reclaimed wood. Congratulations to Ms. McCormick and the Green Team students for all of their efforts in keeping Smith green!
A handful of Smith 7th graders visited the DIA on the final stop of the Religious Diversity Journey this year with Mrs. Sebastian. A great cultural learning experience for our students!
Smith Advanced and Symphonic Bands pausing to pose for a picture prior to the All City Band Concert Thursday evening at Troy High. The combined bands sounded fabulous under Mr. Torres' direction!
Under the guidance of Mrs. Hartenburg, the 6th grade lunch group, KOP’s (Kind, Optimistic People), voted to support the Oakland County Animal Shelter for their service learning project this year. The group held a candy sale and raised money to purchase dog food and they made dog toys out of old t-shirts. The group delivered these gifts to the Shelter today and enjoyed a great learning experience.

Check out the pictures from the first couple weeks of Smith Knights track practice. The Knights open up at home against Rochester Hart on Wednesday.
