May 2016 What's Been Happening the Past Month

WELCOME!

Welcome to the Abba's Pride May 2016 update, where we strive to do our best to share the story of Abba's Pride to people both near and far. We are excited you have taken the time to stop in and see what the Lord is doing! Our prayer is that this monthly update serves as a tool for you to not only learn more about Abba's Pride, but to better understand how to pray for the ministry!

THE PROBLEM

Thousands of children in South Africa live without parents or responsible adults in their homes. They are vulnerable, living in squatter and under-resourced communities. The children are hungry and lacking basic necessities.

OUR VISION & MISSION

Our vision is: to see churches bring hope to their communities by nurturing and education children. Through this vision our mission is to come alongside churches in under-resourced areas to feed the bodies, minds, and spirits of those in their communities.

OUR SOLUTION

Abba’s Pride is committed to bringing the Hope of Christ to vulnerable children by coming alongside under-resourced churches, in order to help their congregations develop sustainable and reproducible ministries. These ministries aim to: feed hungry and malnourished children; equip early childhood centers for preschoolers; create after-school “Safe Zones” where children can receive food, tutoring, and spiritual education; intentionally disciple adults and coach them to be transformational leaders in their communities.

FOOD AND BREAD MINISTRY

As Abba's Pride continues to feed approximately 525 children on a daily basis, the Lord has blessed us with the opportunity to expand our food ministry even more!

In the past few months, Abba's Pride has been blessed with:

  • a donor who supplies us with fresh dough twice a week, as well as a separate baker who has offered to bake the dough. As a result we are now able to provide an average of 150 extra loaves of bread each week to the children in the under-resourced areas. The donor of the dough will also be providing frozen dough, which we will be able to pass on to the communities, who in turn will be able cook it to make what is known as “Vetkoek.” "Vetkoek" is a traditional meal, a bit like a doughnut. This allows Abba's Pride to help the local church empower their people and their community!
  • the finances to provide employment of a driver to deliver the daily donations of bread and food to Abba's Pride's 5 partnering churches. This not only provides a stable employment for a reliable driver, but frees up our time to do more focused ministry and less bread pick-up and delivery! We thank the Lord for the donor of this monthly salary and the opportunities it is bringing!

WE PRAISE THE LORD FOR HIS CONSTANT PROVISION!

How to Pray:

  • For the churches and their communities: Our prayer is that the food donations not only bless these early childhood centers, churches and their communities, but that people may come to know the Lord through this ministry!
  • Safety for our driver as he is on the roads daily picking up and distributing both bread and produce!

After School Programs

During the after school program at Praise Tabernacle the children are learning to recite the books of the Bible in order. Right now they are learning the New Testament books! Last week when I heard them recite the books they were able to recite through Philippians! It is amazing to see the joy on their faces as they recite the books.

How to Pray:

  • For the children at Praise Tabernacle to learn the books of the Bible and through that knowledge to be able to read the Bible better
  • For the Bible lessons on Joy during the month of May to impact and transform the lives of many of the after school students!

Farming and Agriculture

Meet Mary Ngobeni from Baptist Body of Christ, Olverton, Northwest Province, South Africa. Mary, Pastor Paul's wife, is hardworking and passionate about reaching the people in her community. In the picture below, Mary holds a fresh head of lettuce in their garden.

Thanks to generous donations, Baptist Body of Christ's garden has produced enough vegetables to supplement meals to 120 preschool and after school children. It also has a surplus of approximately: 25 lbs. of tomatoes; 9 lbs. green beans and 8 lbs. green peppers. Proceeds from the sale of these vegetables are used to purchase electricity for the church and early childhood center, as well as additional food supplies.

How to Pray:

  • For wisdom as Abba's Pride discerns where a recent borehole donation should go.
  • For the winter crops as they have just been planted. Pray for a successful season with consistent water and helping hands!

Early Childhood Centers

Child-minder or teacher? Child-minders keep the children safe and fed. Teachers stimulate the whole child's development and ensure the children are school ready, all while keeping the children safe and fed. Abba's Pride is committed to meeting with a group of 15 Early Childhood teachers once a month for a full day of hands-on, practical learning. Abba's Pride's GUILD Teacher Program educates, encourages and celebrates with these ladies as they journey from child-minder to teacher.

Meet Deborah. Deborah is the lead teacher at Baptist Body of Christ's Early Childhood Center. Deborah is a young, hardworking teacher who is excited to learn as much she can about teaching. She is faithful to teaching and to the Abba's Pride GUILD Teaching Program.

How to Pray:

  • Pray for Deborah. Deborah is a single mom that also cares for her grandmother. She does not receive a stable income, sometimes as little as R200 per month (about $20). Pray for the center's ability to pay her a steady wage sufficient to care for her family.

THE SECOND COAT

The Second Coat clothing ministry is in it's second year of ministry and the Lord is using it to further His Kingdom! Abba's Pride is able to come alongside our partnering churches and help them have a clothing sale at their church three to four times a year. The past couple of months we have been blown away by the Lord's goodness and how the Lord is using these sales not only to bless families, but to bring people into the church! Our pastors and their church leaders are serving and encouraging their communities. During our last Second Coat sale at Rock of Ages Living Church over 70 people came through the doors!

Lives are being changed and people are being brought into the church through your donations of gently-used clothes!

How to Pray:

  • Donations of lightly-used clothes: We have a large amount of adult clothes and are in need of children's winter clothes, especially boys. If you have clothes you would like to donate, contact Rebecca Jones at jones@ abbaspride.com
  • For church members to continue to rise up and volunteer at their church on the day of the sale.
  • That each sale be less about clothes, and more about sharing the Gospel and for people to come to know Christ through the sales.

A SPECIAL THANKS TO...

THANK YOU TO "REDDFORD HOUSE THE HILLS" FOR CHOOSING ABBA'S PRIDE AS THE RECIPIENTS OF THIS YEAR'S ANNUAL BAREFOOT DAY!

With over 611 pairs of shoes donated, we called on our friends at Eastside Community Church for some help and they answered! Thank you to all of our helping hands both big and small for giving a few hours of your morning to help change the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children! Abba's Pride can't wait to give these shoes out to families in need as the cold weather approaches!
