UNH to Play Home-and-Home with #12 UMass Lowell

UNH SET FOR HOME-AND-HOME WITH UML: The University of New Hampshire men's hockey team (15-13-2, 9-10-1 Hockey East) will take on No. 12 UMass Lowell (16-10-5, 10-7-4 Hockey East) in a home-and-home series on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 28-29. The game on Friday is at the Tsongas Center at 7:15 p.m.

The contest on Saturday is Star Wars Night at the Whittemore Center presented by Army ROTC at 7 p.m. The first 2,500 fans will receive a Baby Wild E. stadium cup, plus 100 special edition Baby Wild E. t-shirts will be used during a t-shirt toss during the game.

UP NEXT: The Wildcats will return to action on Friday and Saturday, March 6-7 at 7 p.m. when they play No. 4 Boston College in a home-and-home series on CBS All Access. Friday's game is at Conte Forum, while the contest on Saturday is at the Whittemore Center. Saturday the Wildcats will honor their five seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program. The game at the Whittemore Center on Saturday will be the last regular season game for the Wildcats as the final set of trading cards will be given out to the first 1,000 fans.

SERIES VS. UML: UNH leads the all-time series with UML 63-44-17. The last five games UNH also leads 2-1-2, with the last time UML winning a game being on Nov. 10, 2017. Last year the Wildcats went 1-0-2 versus UMass Lowell. UNH leads the series at the Tsongas Center, 13-11-6, while the Wildcats are 25-12-4 versus UMass Lowell at the Whittemore Center.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: The Hockey East playoffs start on Mar. 13, with the top eight teams making the tournament. The Wildcats enter the weekend in ninth place with 19 points. With four games remaining to play, the Wildcats are two points behind Northeastern and Providence who are tied for seventh place in the standings. Northeastern has four games left to play, while Providence has two.

10-4-1 AT THE WHITT: UNH has a 10-4-1 (.700) record at the Whittemore Center this season which is tied for 13th in the nation in home winning percentage. Four of the team's five overtime wins have been at the Whittemore Center as UNH is 4-0-1 in overtime at home. Sophomore Angus Crookshank (North Vancouver, British Columbia), junior Patrick Grasso (Ankeny, Iowa), and junior Max Gildon (Plano, Texas) lead the Wildcats at the Whittemore Center with 13 points each. Crookshank has nine goals and four assists, Grasso has eight goals and five assists, and Gildon has three goals and 10 assists. They each have played all 15 games at the Whitt.

UNH TIES SCHOOL RECORD WITH FIVE OVERTIME WINS: The Wildcats have played nine overtime games through their first 30 contests which are tied for sixth in the nation this season. UNH is 5-2-2 in overtime as the five overtime wins are tied for first in the nation and ties the school record which was set in 1972-73. The NCAA record is seven by Minnesota Duluth in 2010-11. Over the last two seasons the Wildcats have played in overtime 23 times out of 66 games which includes a school record 14 last year which also led the NCAA. UNH went 12-15-9 last season setting a program record for ties. Last year the Wildcats went 3-2-9 in overtime. This season, junior assistant captain Charlie Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Angus Crookshank each have two overtime game-winning goals which are tied for first in the nation, while their three points each are also tied for first.

5-2-1 VERSUS RANKED TEAMS: The Wildcats are 5-2-1 versus nationally ranked teams this season. UNH defeated No. 15 Boston College (1-0 OT), No. 2 UMass (3-1), No. 11 Northeastern (5-4 OT), No. 11 Providence (4-3) and No. 7 UMass (1-0). The Wildcats also fell to No. 12 Northeastern, 4-0 and No. 11 Providence, 5-1, while they tied No. 7 UMass (1-1). For three straight weeks the Wildcats posted wins over the first place team in Hockey East as Northeastern, Providence and UMass were all in first place when the Wildcats played them.

STRONG POWER PLAY: The Wildcats currently rank 19th in the nation in power play percentage with a .210 percentage. The Wildcats have scored three power play goals on Oct. 12 at Miami, Nov. 2 at Dartmouth and Jan. 31 vs. UConn. This season, the Wildcats have a 1-1-1 record when scoring three power play goals.

SCORING FIRST: The Wildcats have scored first in 21 of the 30 games this season. UNH is 12-7-2 when scoring first. The Wildcats are 8-1-2 when leading after the first period and 8-3-1 when leading after two periods.

ONE-GOAL WINS: The Wildcats have been big in clutch situations this year as they are 9-3-0 in one-goal games. Last year UNH went 7-5-0 in games decided by one goal.

BOUNCING BACK: The Wildcats have bounced back after a loss all season long. This season, UNH is 8-4-0 after a loss.

WILDCATS ON A ROLL: Sophomore Filip EngarĂ¥s (Stockholm, Sweden) has tallied 13 points in the last 14 games, with six goals and seven assists. Junior defender Max Gildon has posted one goal and five assists for six points over the last seven games. Junior Patrick Grasso has four goals and three assists for seven points over the last six games.
