RACE HIGHLIGHTS September 2019

After a long summer without club racing, we were thrilled to finally resume our season and debut the new Fittipaldi (G) 3.2-mile configuration.

Under clear skies, our racers met the challenge of the new configuration which included the classic series of corners 8, 9 and 10, aptly named “Sunset” and “Complex”. This series of corners challenges drivers to carry as much speed as possible through “Sunset” and still be able to negotiate the tight corners of “Complex”. This sequence of corners makes for a great display of everyone’s skill and competitive spirits as they held their lines and pushed to make passes. By contrast, Catapult, on the west side, provides a different challenge that tests just how fast racers could tackle the blind, sweeping corner. All in all, it was a great weekend to see our club members again and to get back to battling for points. There are now only 3 weekends left until the 2019 Club Spring Mountain racing champions are crowned!

We spotted two new racecars this weekend. Ron Eckhardt was seen on Friday racing his new Wolf GB08 Tornado, a two-seater that categorizes into the LSR1 class. Eckhardt raced well and finished in second place that day. Tony Bullock, a long-time member who we’ve missed seeing for quite some time, was gifted a Wolf GB08SM Turbo from his dad. Though Bullock didn’t race his new Wolf this weekend, he did compete in LSR3 class with his Radical SR3 and placed first in all three races! Congrats to Tony!

Next Race Weekend

October races will be held on the Mansell (B) 3.5-mile course. We are excited to host non-member LSR racers as well as this year’s Spring Mountain Racing Invitational! We look forward to competitors in the Radical Cup North America series joining us at Spring Mountain before going on to their final race in November. It will be an exciting weekend and great opportunity to see these racers take to the track and compete alongside our members. Don’t miss it – October 18th & 19th – see you soon!
