A Great End to a Great Year Baby on the Way, Teaching Trip to Mazatlan, and what's ahead

Joy is pregnant! Our first baby girl is due in April! As the date approaches in the midst of everything we have been keeping busy getting ready for her arrival.

In November, we moved into a new house as the first major step of preparation! Joy was convinced we could get a reasonably priced, furnished home close to the YWAM base, I told her there was no way. But, God and Joy surprised me. After asking here and there she found a family willing to show us a house and it has exceded our expectations: a three bed, two bathroom, fully furnished home with incredible landlords within walking distance of the base.

Teaching in YWAM Mazatlan, Mexico's Discipleship Training School (DTS) on Biblical Worldview

In December, we spent a week in Mazatlan, Mexico teaching in the Discipleship Training School on Biblical Worldview, Missions, and (Joy on) Public Speaking.

One day around lunch time Abby, one of the students, asked if she could talk with us. So, we pulled up some chairs and she showed us her notebook full of notes and thoughts from her times with God. She told us she always wanted to be a part of a cause. But, God was challenging her to lay down her thoughts and solutions she’s seen the world try and to take up His perspective to bring change to the world. She told us the classes were revolutionizing her mind to think like Jesus thinks. We are excited to see how God will lead Abby through this process of discovering and processing truth and her calling!

A key component to bring the Good News to the nations is the ability to communicate well. Joy spent most afternoons with the students teaching Biblical principles for communication and practical tools like: eye-contact, . By the end of the week, Sarah, a Colombian-American was translating in front of the whole class. Joy congratulated her for putting the public speaking skills into practice. “You translate so well!” Joy told her. Sarah responded confidently, “Now I do, after your class!”

Joy looks on as the students of the Mazatlan DTS practice eye contact and pronunciation.

We really feel very loved by God for answering our prayers for this week and really give Him all the honor for an incredible and are grateful just to have been a part of it. The students are currently on outreach sharing the Good News in Southern Mexico and the Philippines.

David, a fellow YWAM Staff member, explaining the Bible during a Bible Distribution in November.

On Friday, December 30th, 2016, Joy and I went on the final Bible Distribution of 2016 and gave away 18 Bibles, bringing the year-end total to 2,998 Bibles and 53 Kids Bibles equaling 3,051 Bibles given to homes without the Word of God in 2016. It was an thrilling year seeing churches become more involved in missions and local outreach, hearing testimonies salvations and sharing God’s Living Word with our city. We look forward to what God will do in this new year as we continue to seek to bring the Bible to those that don’t have it.

Today, the 23rd of January, is arrival day for our January DTS in Juarez! For the next five months, the students will be engaging more with God’s Word, understanding in greater detail His nature and character, discovering in greater depths His heart for the lost and will be well equipped to share the truth with others. Please pray for the school and keep an eye out for testimonies and photos from this school!

Thank you for your friendship, all of your love, prayers and encouraging words!

Lots of Love! - Fred, Joy & Baby
