CHS Caregiver and Community newsletter December and January 2020-2021

We would like to thank everyone for their patience and flexibility when it has come to our instructional models this year. Caregivers and students have been very supportive of the changes, although we do understand the need and want for in-person education for students. Safety of students and staff is always our number one priority. So once again, thank you for your understanding as we continue to navigate through this school year.

Below are some updates and celebrations as we head into students coming back to us this coming Monday, December 7th. Remember it is a Day 2!

Mask requirements

  • CCSD is requiring all students to wear either a mask or a 2-ply gaiter while on CHS property unless the student has a documented health concern that would require the use of a face shield.
  • Staff is also required to wear either a mask or a 2-ply gaiter unless they also have a documented health concern or they are instructing hearing impaired students.

New Student Parking Lot is ready!

  • Only spot to park for students on CHS property!
  • Enter through the Main Entrance Door A1
  • Students arriving to school for Early Bird, may enter through the Swimming Pool doors.
  • Take a look at the less than two minute video below!
  • This will also be the main parking lot for after school activities, with entrance to events in Yourd through the Swimming Pool and Hall of Fame Doors.

The end of the quarter is near! We only have four weeks left until January 15th! Be pushing to get those grades up!

Finals Exemption

  • All assignments will be due by January 8th. No assignments will be accepted after this deadline.
  • Students have a C (not a C -) or better in their class as of January 8th.
  • They have no more than 2 missing assignments or a percentage of missing assignments as dictated by the specific department.
  • The reason for this shift is because of the high volume of work that comes in the final week of the grading term and it is too difficult for teachers to give valuable feedback to all students.

Finals Schedule

We will have a slight change to the finals schedule from 1st Quarter, as we will be asking ALL students to attend during the appropriate period. The reasons for this slight adjustment are:

  1. We can have make-up time in the afternoons for students who need extra assistance at the end of the quarter.
  2. We feel that we can properly social distance because the majority of students will not have to take finals.
  3. If we cannot properly social distance in a class during finals, we will look to move that class to a larger area in the school. We will know if we have to move a classrooms location by finals exemptions from the week prior. That information will be shared out a head of time.
  • Thursday, January 14th : Periods 1 and 2 Finals for Day 1 and Day 2 students.
  • Friday, January 15th: Periods 3 and 4 Finals for Day 1 and 2 Students

New Hybrid Online Day and 100% Online Attendance Check in Expectations

  • All online day students and 100% online students are being asked to "check-in" through Infinite Campus once a day between 7:30am and 3:45pm.
  • This "check-in" is only for attendance purposes for state reporting, and does not mean students do not have to engage in their regular learning for the day.
  • Students still can do the work that day outside of the 7:30am to 3:45pm time slot.
  • Please take a look at the video below for a step by step procedure from Mr. Tobin!

4 x 4 Schedule

We will continue with the 4 x 4 schedule for the second semester. We appreciate the feedback received from stakeholders in making this decision. We feel staying in the 4 x 4 schedule for this year will provide some consistency. We also feel the changes made to help support Honors and AP students meet with their teachers has been a benefit also. For the 2021-2022 school year, it is our intention that will be transitioning back to the 7 period day.

Scheduling for 3rd quarter

Our counseling team is starting the process of scheduling for 3rd Quarter. We will stay consistent with no schedule changes for 3rd Quarter, with the exception being of misplacement or error on our end.

If you will be a junior or senior next year, we strongly encourage you to think about signing up for our Synergy program. Synergy is a work and problem based program that the actual setting is outside of CHS in its own location. Students will work with members of the community to solve problems real work problems. Please contact Mr. Tobin to learn more about this wonderful opportunity!

Practice and games

All practices for CHS Athletics and after school activities are allowed to start on December 5th. Please check with the coach or director for more specific information.

CHS Livestream of activities and Events

With the restrictions of large gatherings, CHS has purchased equipment to livestream all home activities and events so our community can still support our students from afar. To see upcoming games and events, head to our Social Media page on the website and click the link that says "CHS Activities and Events Livestream". The events will also be simulcasted on the CHS Facebook page!
