Anti drug abuse

Understanding Drug Abuse and Addiction.

People usually mistakenly think that those who uses drugs lack moral principles and willpower. People think that they could stop their drug use so easily just by choosing to stop. In reality, drug addiction is actually a complex disease, and quitting usually takes more than good intentions or a strong will.

Difference Between Drug Addiction and Drug Abuse.

Drug abuse:

It is an extreme desire to use very high amounts of one or more substances. Like alcohol, cigarettes, and any other drugs.

Drug addiction:

Not being able to stop using drugs even though trying to stop for numerous attempts, becoming a problem.

Drug Addiction

Drug addiction is a relapsing brain disease that causes compulsive drug seeking and use, which could lead to harmful consequences to the drug addict and those around them. It is a brain disease because the drug abuse can lead to changes in the structure and function of the brain.

Long-term use could affect more than just the brain:

Learning, decision-making, stress, memory, behaviour.

Drug abuse

Drug abuse is not a mistake in a person’s character but a medical condition that has developed over time. No one really knows why a person becomes a drug abuser but drug abuse does tend to run in families. Drug abuse includes cigarettes, inhalants, alcohol, both legal and illegal drugs.

Factors for that creates drug abuse:

Unstable home environment, inadequate supervision over adolescent's activities, use of drugs by friends / peers, and behavioral problems combined with poor parenting.

Can it be cured or prevented?

Drug abuse and addiction are preventable. Prevention programs involving families, schools, communities, and the media are effective for preventing or reducing drug use and addiction. If the parents and friends notice the problem and helped then the person can be cured. Also, the media have to stop showing videos or pictures or shows that showcases drug abuse and this may also help.
