January 2017 Larry & Whitney Tu's Ministry Update with Epic Movement

"Be" Epic West Coast Conference

This might’ve been the largest conference we’ve hosted yet on the West Coast! We had over 500 people in attendance at the DoubleTree Hotel in Anaheim, CA! We always look forward to Epic Conference because we get to see friends like our East Asia Summer Missions team (below) again and being with students and staff all over the West Coast and Hawaii gives us pictures of God’s present and future work that we sometimes miss in our day-to-day lives. Plus, there are always exceptional speakers, worship bands, seminars, and the Day of Faith!

Whitney led a seminar with her friend and fellow Epic staff, Zach Yee, on embracing ethnic identity! It was a packed room with over 130 people there wanting to understand a little bit more about God’s plan to use our ethnic identities to establish His Kingdom here on earth. We also compiled a small list of resources for people to start getting to know their stories at their own pace. If you’d like to see some of the resources for yourself, let us know! We’d love to send it to you!

Larry drove a group of students during the Day of Faith to the Asian Garden Mall in Westminster, CA—affectionately known as “Little Saigon.” Students and staff in small groups descended upon over 20 locations in Orange County to get to know people through big questions like: “If you were to die tomorrow, what would you do today?” Through these questions we had over 800 conversations and 12 men and women came to know the Lord!! We celebrated the Lord’s work—not just people coming to know Him, but the brave choices everyone made by caring for strangers in hearing their stories—by throwing balloons in the air!

500 students and staff singing praise to the Lord!

Happy Lunar New Year!

January 28, 2017 is the Lunar New Year! There are a lot of traditions and customs that relate to the Lunar New Year throughout much of Asia—much to celebrate and hope for prosperity and happiness. And God has been incredibly kind and good to us! This year we’ll be meeting with Epic students at our place to celebrate, pray and plan for the semester!

Last year we showed this video, that describes some of the origins of Lunar New Year and some of the traditions that come with it for Chinese families, to students of many ethnicities and backgrounds at San Francisco State University! Then we ate hot pot together (teaching many who had never had it before!) and shared about our families. Many of us didn't know these stories and were so grateful to learn! Enjoy!

Thank you so much for your continued support and prayers for us!

Love, Larry & Whitney Tu
