Employee Programs & Benefits
I haven’t even hit my one year yet and cannot believe I work for such an awesome company!" —Cassandra N., Member Services Consultant
Last year we welcomed 483 new employees to the BECU family. Through internships, recognition, workplace motivation and benefit programs, we demonstrate our commitment to finding and retaining our stellar employees – while enhancing employee financial and work-life well-being – in the following ways:
Exemplifying BECU Values
Our 2018 “Being BECU” awards dinner celebrated 12 outstanding employees personifying BECU's core values: Members First, Do the Right Thing, Know Your Stuff, Be Real, and Own It. A committee selected these peer-nominated employees – including member consultants, mortgage advisors and more – as individuals making a significant impact on our members, fellow employees and BECU.
At BECU, we’re working to cultivate a great work environment where employees are respected and valued. Last year, we introduced a new program – BILD – that fosters innovation, increases engagement, and improves business decisions.
Here’s what Belonging, Inclusion and Leveraging Differences (BILD) means to BECU:
Belonging: We want everyone to feel accepted and connected to the BECU community.
Inclusion: We want everyone to be treated fairly and respectfully, with equal access to opportunities and resources.
Leveraging Differences: We want everyone to bring their whole and real selves to work, making the most of our differences.
Aiding Financial Well-being
Our commitment to financial health includes BECU employees. Our Financial Health Check provided employees with assistance on budgeting, saving and reducing debt, while our Employee Investment Program encourages employees to take advantage of a complimentary financial review with BECU Investment Services.
Lending a Hand
We know financial emergencies can burden employees, as well as members. Eligible BECU employees can borrow up to one month’s salary through the BECU Employee Assistance Loan Program; this is our way of discouraging payday loans or other high-rate, high-fee loans that can be harmful to financial health.
Educating Interns
We’re preparing the next generation of credit union advocates. Each summer, BECU’s 12-week internship program focuses on career development by hiring students and recent college graduates who become an integral part of the teams they work with. Interns attend weekly lunch-and-learns with BECU executives, perform community volunteer activities and receive real-life experience in our Communications, Recruiting, IT Systems, Accounting and Lending departments.
Increased Transit Accessibility
BECU sought ways to make public transit use easier for employees, but soon realized many transit stations didn’t provide enough access to our campuses. So we piloted a program to cover the cost of an employee’s Lyft ride within a three-mile radius between public transportation locations and the Tukwila or Kent offices. As a result, more than 180 employees used our Last Mile Lyft program to travel 2,300-plus rides. In addition to Lyft benefits, BECU employee benefits include subsidized ORCA transit passes for train, bus, light rail and water taxis.
Charged Electric Cars
A number of employees and members drive electric cars, so we introduced four charging stations at the Tukwila Financial Center/employee campus, with two charging stations for members and two for employees.
Composted Waste
We saved 45 tons of organic waste from the landfill (and reduced associated methane emissions), thanks to BECU’s composting program.
From the Lyft Last Mile program to amazing wellness benefits, it’s clear that BECU truly cares about the financial health and well-being of its employees. Thank you, BECU, for putting your employees and members first, every single day." —Avery F., Communications Specialist
