Have you ever wondered how someone has made it possible to click on a word or phrase in a document or email to take users directly to a specific website? For example:

Click HERE to view my website!

This is called a hyperlink and it is a very easy way to send users directly to a specific site without showcasing any long and unattractive URLs.

Here's how to do it:

Outlook Users

Type out the word or phrase that you would like to hyperlink in a new email message. Highlight EXACTLY what you would like to hyperlink. Then, right click on the highlighted text and select Hyperlink.

Paste or type the link that you would like to send users to in the Address box. Then, click OK.

The text will now be underlined and blue. To check the link, hold down Control and click the link. The hyperlinked URL will show up in a new window.

Gmail Users

Type out the word or phrase that you would like to hyperlink in a new email message. Highlight EXACTLY what you would like to hyperlink. Then, click the Add Link icon at the bottom of the message.

Paste or type the link that you would like to send users to in the Web Address box. Then, click OK.

The text will now be underlined and blue. Click the hyperlinked word to check the link!

You can do this in documents, too!

If you are in a Microsoft document like Word or PowerPoint, highlight the word or phrase that you would like to hyperlink; then, right click and select Hyperlink.

Paste or type the link that you would like to send users to in the Address box. Then, click OK.

The hyperlinked word will now be blue and underlined! To check the link, hold down Control and click the link. The hyperlinked URL will show up in a new window.
