Students become word detectives

Students in Bridget Neubauer’s third grade class at Eagle Point completed their reading workshop unit today as word detectives! According to Neubauer, “The SSDS (Super Secret Detective Agency) left us a final TOP SECRET mission! We needed to use everything we learned about reading tricky words to solve 10 clues. Each time we solved a clue, we used the answer to create a sentence that said: “There is a surprise waiting for you outside the classroom door!” Students found the surprise — reading finger lights!

Community support at YES

We're so lucky to have such a supportive business community! Thanks to Art's Electric for helping to realign the rope on the YES flag pole last week, and to Wellhouse Flooring for donating some red carpet to be used in the school's special education department.

EPES students visit UW Geology Museum & Legacy Academy

Students in Tricia Langmeier's 3rd grade class recently visited the UW-Geology Museum and Legacy Academy.

EPES students celebrate Hmong New Year

Third grade students in Tricia Langmeier's class at Eagle Point Elementary School learned about the Hmong New Year celebration, which frequently occurs in November and December, serving as a Thanksgiving holiday for the Hmong people.

WES students learn about STEAM

The students at Windsor Elementary School were given the opportunity to learn more about STEAM, also referred to as Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. A parent, who works at MG&E, partnered with Windsor staff to create several different stations where kids could do things such as build models, make pendulum art, and learn about thermal imaging. This was a learning experience for not only the kids, but their parents as well.

No Shave November raises $700 for American Cancer Society

During the month of November, gentlemen of the DeForest Area School District’s leadership team participated in a “No Shave November” fundraiser. While the men grew out their beards and mustaches, district staff donated funds that equated to “votes” on which type of facial hair style the men would wear on December 1.

4K parent information sessions in January

All DASD families with children who will be eligible for four-year-old kindergarten in fall 2018 are invited to attend an informational session either January 4 or 10 at the DeForest Area Public Library.
