In 1961 the Bay of pigs invasion took place, Kennedy ordered an invasion on Cuba's Bay of pigs and it ended in utter disaster.

With this act of aggression, the soviets were allowed by the Cuban government to ship their nuclear missiles to Cuba.

Kennedy then made the decision to blockade Cuba using naval forces. This was seen as an act of aggression by the Soviets and Cuban government.

Robert Kennedy secretly met with Soviet Ambassador Anatoly Dobrynin. The crisis was averted. Nuclear War would not happen that day.
