Oprah is a household name. Everyone knows who Oprah is. Throughout her life, she's had many accomplishments. However, many of these achievements have been overlooked. Her limitless generosity and service sometimes goes unnoticed. It is because of this that we want to unveil some of the interesting facts about her. Let's learn about Oprah! :')

1. Her birth name is "Orpah" Gail Winfrey.

She was named after the biblical character "Orpah" in the Book of Ruth; however, due to the constant mispronunciation, "Oprah" stuck.

2. She won a beauty pageant.

Yep, when Oprah was 17, she won the Miss Black Tennessee beauty pageant. She was then offered an on-air job at the WVOL radio station.

3. She was a news anchor.

At 19, Oprah was a news anchor at Nashville's WTVF-TV. She was the youngest person and first African American to hold this position.

4. She had her own show.

The Oprah Winfrey Show was one of the most popular talk shows during its running 25 seasons, beginning in 1986.

5. She has her own magazine.

The first issue of The Oprah Winfrey Magazine was in June 2000. Fun fact: She is featured on every cover!

6. She starred in The Color Purple.

In 1985, Winfrey made her debut in the film The Color Purple. She was nominated for an Academy Award for "Best Actress in a Supporting Role".

7. She started a production company.

Oprah founded her multimedia company, Harpo, in 1988. "Harpo" is her name (Oprah) spelled backwards. It is also the name of her on-screen husband in The Color Purple.

8. She was the first Black female billionaire.

Oprah, in 2003, was the first female African American to become a billionaire and only the second African American to earn the title. In 2004, she was the only Black person who was a billionaire and maintained that title for 3 years!

9. She opened her own school.

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy is an all girls boarding school in South Africa, founded in 2007. The school is for grades 8-12 and currently has about 380 students enrolled.

10. She has her own television network.

OWN (the Oprah Winfrey Network) is TV network that was launched in 2011 by Winfrey. She is the CEO.
