John Grady Capricorn (December 21st-January 19th)
John Grady exhibits all of the characteristics of a Capricorn. He is responsible, taking care of himself after the selling of his family farm. He is also very disciplined and has lots of self-control. John Grady acts as the leader of the group because he is able to focus and accept leadership positions as Capricorns do. However, Capricorns are known to be a "know-it-all" and often brood in silence. John Grady ignores the advice of others and does what he thinks is right. His inability to listen to others hurts him throughout the novel.
Rawlins Taurus (April 19th-May 20th)
Rawlins acts as the voice of reason in the group. He, like all Taurus', is very practical. In this case, Rawlins is generally more down-to-earth then Blevins or John Grady are. He is also notorious for being reliable and stable. He rarely ever has any crazy thoughts or actions. Rawlins does what is expected of him and nothing more. However, he can be insecure. Rawlins seems to be incapable of making decisions without the approval of others. He also dislikes great change. He is generally comfortable in his ways, so his trip to Mexico is very out of character. However, he returns to Texas proving that he can always find comfort in whats familiar.
Blevins Aeries (March 20th-April 19th)
Blevins is definitely the most enthusiastic member of the group. He gets excited from the possibility of adventure, just as Aeries' do. He is also generally confident in himself. He puts on a brave face, but he does have insecurities that he hides with fake confidence. While he has many great qualities, he is also impulsive. He makes rash decisions without thinking through the consequences. Blevins can also be moody. Through out his journey with John Grady and Rawlins, Blevins has several instances of mood swings. He is completely influenced by his emotions which leads to him making quick decisions.
