Dominican University's department of athletics continues to make a commitment to academic success. In the Fall 2016 semester, the department's 200+ student-athletes earned a 3.27 combined grade point average, the Stars' 21st straight semester above a 3.0.

DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS ACADEMIC STATS

  • 42 percent of Dominican University's student-athletes that competed this fall were named to the Dean's and Honor's lists.
  • All 13 of Dominican University's varsity athletics rosters earned at least a 3.0 for the Fall 2016 semester.
  • For seven straight semesters, Dominican University's athletes have combined to earn a grade point average above 3.2.
  • Eleven student-athletes posted perfect 4.0 semesters while practicing and competing for Dominican University's athletics teams.
  • Nearly 75 percent of Dominican University's student-athletes recorded a grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the Fall 2016 semester.
On Tuesday, January 10, junior Tim Robertson became the 18th player in Dominican University men's basketball history, dating back to 1981, to score 1,000 points in his career. Robertson, the 2015 d3hoops.com Midwest Region Freshman of the Year, is averaging 16.4 points per game in his career through 63 games.
The 2017 Dominican University men's volleyball season opens on Friday, January 20th, when the #14 NYU Violets come to the Igini Sports Forum. The department of athletics is sponsoring a reception on the track for Dominican University's faculty and staff as part of the department's Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night. The Dominican University men's and women's basketball teams will hold their annual Alumnae/i Basketball games on Friday, January 20th. The event is always fun with games followed by a social on the Igini Sports Forum running track. For more information, contact Coach White or Coach Johnson.
Dominican University junior Colin Janison and sophomore Mike Piotrowski were recently named to the 2017 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division III Players to Watch List. Janison, a right-hand pitcher and shortstop, was a ABCA All-Region selection last season while Piotrowski led the Stars in a number of offensive categories, including batting average (.339) and slugging percentage (.485).
The Dominican University women's basketball team won back-to-back games last week in the Igini Sports Forum and heads to Rockford on Wednesday to take on the Regents, looking for their first three-game winning streak since February of 2012.
The Dominican University men's volleyball program, entering their fourth season since beginning play as an NCAA Division III program, find themselves ranked 13th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Men's Preseason Poll. In its first three seasons of play, the Stars have collected a record of 45 wins to just 34 losses.
The Dominican University men's basketball team is currently 7-7 on the season and sit in sixth in the NACC standings. Last Thursday, the Stars scored a historic victory, topping the Aurora University Spartans, a perennial conference power, 96-60, Dominican's largest margin of victory over the Spartans in program history.

SAVE THE DATE: The Dominican University department of athletics 2nd annual golf outing is scheduled for Friday, July 28, at Bridges of Poplar Creek Country Club. The outing is scheduled to be a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. Last year we had 80+ golfers and expect to exceed that number in 2017 so make sure you mark your calendars today!
