Many toddlers are not learning to read early in their childhood, and are entering elementary school with mediocre literacy skills.

As a result, children are entering the school system unequipped--and lacking the ability to read even small words, reducing the effectiveness of elementary education.

Instead, parents should read to their children every evening before bed.
