First Friday Open Studio: CREATE U Art of Sound Showcase

Friday, May 5 | 5:30–8 p.m.

CREATE has started an after school program that introduces urban youth in grades 7—10 to concepts and tools for creative engineering and applied problem solving.

During their time spent in CREATE, students have explored the concept of sound, both in how it affects people and how it can become an agent for discovery, learning and critical thinking. The students have used this exploration to then design and create diverse products which will influence the Music Landing exhibit at the Science Center. On First Friday, the public will have the opportunity to view their results and get a chance to talk with the students about their process.

Sunday, May 7 | 1–3 p.m.

Do you have a young maker? Join us for CREATE Jr., a monthly program to introduce children aged 8–12 to the world of technology and engineering. Learn about 3D printing and how to use the equipment in CREATE. During the class, participants will create a Tinkercad account and learn how to create and combine shapes to design a 3D object.

littleBits Meetup: Space Pirates

Saturday, May 20 | 2–5 p.m.

Ahoy, matey! Join us as we need all hands on deck this May! Help Captain Jack Sparrow and the crew navigate through the cosmos by creating new technologies in May's littleBits Meetup.
