Jesse D. Rurka A Story of personal growth

"Hot sand on toes, cold sand in sleeping bags –– I've come to know that memories –– were the best things you'll ever have" - Ben Howard

//About me

I'd like to take a moment to share a little bit of self reflection. I have found through my experience that the three most fundamental traits one must achieve in life are: Identity, Direction, and perspective. My journey of personal growth has been to foster and improve of those exact traits. Along the way I have come to discover myself in a deeper way and have develop a deeper understanding of the world around me. Herein lies my brand narrative:

The simplistic nature of my logo accurately reflects my aesthetic style of minimalism. It is two logos essentially combined into one. The bigger "JR" is very straightforward and is simply my initials with a welcoming and muted color scheme of dark blue shades and a khaki color. The lower logo is a mixture of a three dimensional box and my initials "JR" again.

I'm a travel enthusiast at heart. I find that travel in particular feeds the Perspective aspect of life far more than almost anything else.

"Travel and change of place impart new vigor on the mind" - L. Seneca

There is something so powerful about stepping off a plane in a foreign land and breathing in the new air for the first time. So far I've only been to three foreign countries (plus Hawaii), and I've driven across the country about six times. The idea of travel and the perspective it brings is a fundamental aspect in shaping the culture and direction of my brand.

Rock Climbing

One of the primary hobbies of choice for me is Rock Climbing along with the entire culture that it involves. The culture of rock climbing is one of adventure and risk, but simultaneously about genuinity and community.

"Only the curious have, if they live, a take worth telling at all"

I officially got into climbing my freshman year of college when I began the job I currently hold as an employee of the Liberty University Rock Wall. Since then I have adopted its culture for myself, and elements of it often show through in my personal brand.

I have always been a deep thinker, ever since I was a kid. I would analyze (and often even over analyze) most situations. My mind has always naturally gravitated toward reasoning with a philosophical mindset. It was not until I took my first Philosophy class in College that I truly realized this. Ever since, it has become a crucial part of who I am as a thinker.

"He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good." - Proverbs 19:8

Having been raised in the small town of Prescott, Arizona; I grew a love for wide open spaces. Today, being in such a setting is often how I am best able to focus and work.
"There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations — these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub and exploit — immortal horrors or everlasting splendors. ... Next to the blessed sacrament itself, your neighbor is the holiest object presented to your senses.”

- C. S. Lewis; The Weight of Glory
