LATE LIFE

Late Life #1

Quote:

"Shakespeare has had enormous influence on culture throughout the world. His works have helped shape the literature of all English-speaking countries" (Lander).

My Ideas:

Even centuries after Shakespeare's death, his poems and plays and every work he's done is still practiced and still influences many poets and playwriters today. Shakespeare's works have made a huge impact in the theatre. Many of Shakespeare's plays are even still performed.

Late life #2

Quote:

" Since his death Shakespeare's plays have been almost continually performed, in non-English-speaking nations as well as those where English is the native tongue; they are quoted more than the works of any other single author" ("William")

My Ideas:

Shakespeare's plays have been practiced since the late 1500's up until present day and probably more. English or not, Shakespeare's plays are still taught and performed all around the world.

Late life #3

Quote:

" In 1599 he became a partner in the ownership of the Globe theatre, and in 1608 he was part owner of the Blackfriars theatre. Shakespeare retired and returned to Stratford c.1613. He undoubtedly enjoyed a comfortable living throughout his career and in retirement, although he was never a wealthy man" ("William")

My Ideas:

It's shocking to see that even though Shakespeare was a very successful man with very successful plays, he still did not live wealthy. In current day, Shakespeare would make thousands of thousands of dollars on one of his successful plays alone.

Mid Life

Mid Life

Quote:

"By 1594, he was a charter member of the theatrical company called Lord Chamberlain's Men, which was later to become the King's Men" (Anderson 5).

My Ideas:

By Shakespeare's 20-30's, he was already incredibly successful. He was extremely involved in the theater community. He already had many successful plays at the time.

Mid Life #2

Quote:

" Romeo and Juliet was among the early plays that Shakespeare wrote, between 1594 and 1596" (Anderson 6)

My Ideas:

Romeo and Juliet is presently one of the most studied plays/poems. The poem/play is performed, practiced, studied, and analyzed all over the world.

Mid Life #3

Quote:

"In 1824 the Shakespeare Club celebrated the April 23rd birthday with feasting and a procession to Holy Trinity Church where Will lies buried; then in 1893 boys of King Edward VI School, Shakespeare's old alma mater, paraded to lay flowers at his grave, a reverence that became an annual event" (Ellis)

My Ideas:

This quote shows what just some of his mid life consisted of. Other than play writing, Shakespeare attended the Holy Trinity Church.

Shakespeare's Plays

Shakespeare's Plays

Quote:

"Indeed, these stanzas can easily be read within the tradition of the dispraise of, or farewell to, courtly life, so often does Shakespeare's diction carry courtly connotations: Sorrow will "attend" on love; it will be "waited on" by jealousy, and "full of fraud"; it will "ne'er be settled equally, but high or low"; love will be whimsically "merciful, and too severe" and "subject and servile to all discontents"(Schmidgall)

My Ideas:

Shakespeare's plays show clear, evident emotion through dialogue. He uses a lot of different feeling within all of his plays and poems. Shakespeare displays emotion through examples of sorrow, envy, love, and many more.

Plays

Quote:

"The boar, whom Venus imagines making rival love to Adonis with his tusk, it might be added, is yet another avatar of the aggressive Renaissance suitor" (Schmidgall).

My Ideas:

This quote can also show very deep emotion. Shakespeare was amazing at making us feel. He used emotions everyone could relate to so everyone could understand and analyze the poems correctly.

Shakespeare's Plays #3

Quote:

"During his last eight years, Shakespeare was the sole author of only three plays— Cymbeline, The Tempest, and The Winter’s Tale. He collaborated with John Fletcher, another English dramatist, in writing three more plays" (Lander)

My Ideas:

Shakespeare's entire life consisted of play writing. His last eight years, Shakespeare had written three more plays, which, of course, were extremely successful.

Plays (:

Quote:

"Shakespeare bestrides the world like a literary Colossus, his work so rich with timeless situations, of love and loss, power and pride, families and friendship; he is simply the most performed playwright" (Ellis)

My Ideas:

This quote shows how much Shakespeare impacted us. He is the most played playwright who has used emotion and brought people together with his work.
