The Qualities of A Prophet

A prophetical person must express many positive qualities in order to be effective.

Prophets must be courageous and brave. To be able to complete the work of a prophet you must show strength against ignorance and adversary, and show courage to be able to spread the word of God. You cannot be afraid to show your faith or show your love towards God, even if you are abused for it. The prophet Jeremiah was an excellent example of immense bravery when he started speaking out to the people of his nation about how they must follow only one true God, because this God loves them more than any other. He was met with abuse and rejection, and all his peers who did not believe abandoned him, but he continued to show faith through his strength and faith in God (“I never sat in the company of revelers, never made merry with them; I sat alone because your hand was on me and you had filled me with indignation.” Jeremiah 15:17)

A prophet must also be faithful and loyal. Prophets must show confidence in their belief of God’s word, and they must always remain loyal to only him. It is their responsibility to preach the word of the Lord and have certainty that He is always watching over them. They must perform God’s duties and never speak against him, no matter what falsehoods are spoken to them by those who do not believe. All prophets must see God as the highest being in existence, and pray to him and only him.

One of the most important qualities of a prophet is kindness. A prophet must be compassionate and caring in order to allow others to be able to trust them. In order to preach the word of God, those who are listening must trust and respect the speaker, and the prophet must always be willing to put others before themselves. They must always offer guidance and support to all those in need, and accept anyone no matter who they are or where they come from. The Prophet Daniel showed kindness when he offered compassion to a girl who was falsely put to death to by two sinful men. He convicted them of false witness to save this girl’s life, and he stood by her when no one else would (“Daniel had convicted them of bearing false witness…” “…Thus innocent blood was saved that day.” Daniel 13: 60-63)

Lucy Richards

Lucy Richards was born in Melbourne in 1990. She is now based in New York. While she was in school she did work for the Reach Foundation, a non for profit organisation that offers guidance and assistance that helps children in need, socially, physically and emotionally (Advance, 2016).

She was introduced to Smiling Minds by being offered a job by the founders when the application was first being developed in 2012. She played an integral part in the success and growth of the app throughout the recent years to the present day. After a year she was promoted to General Manager.

Smiling Minds is a mental health program application, the most successful one in Australia. Its focus is encouraging mindfulness and meditation to become part of every Australian’s everyday lives. This promotes a healthy mindset and a calm positive attitude. This can help prevent serious mental health conditions, and can immensely help improve the lives and mentality of those who are already greatly struggling. The application since it’s release has been downloaded over a million times and is being used by psychologists, general practitioners, youth workers, teachers and mental health professionals.

Lucy Richards is a direct representative of God as she lives out God’s commandments in every decision she makes throughout her everyday life. For example, the commandment of ‘love your neighbour as you love yourself.’ Lucy lives out this commandment through her work, which inspires others to do the same, by offering help to those who are suffering and showing support and kindness to those who have nothing and are involved in an immense amount of suffering. By living her life through the word of God, she inspires others to do the same.

She is the voice of God, as she offers positive and inspirational assistance to all those who need it. She gives advice on how to provide much needed support to those who are greatly suffering, and what people can do to help others. She preaches the importance of taking care of yourself and others, and ensuring that as many people as possible who require urgent assistance within their present lives receive help no matter what their social or cultural status is.

She is a mediator of repentance among God’s people as she established programs for struggling youths in order to get their lives back on track and reach their full potential. After they may have previously associated their lives with crime and wrongdoings, the Reach Foundation that Lucy dedicated many years of her life to (Friday Best Mag, 2015) gives them the tools to turn over a new leaf and start a new life free from sin and full of opportunities.

The Old Testament Prophet Daniel

Daniel was a young prophet born in the time of the Babylonian Exile (approximately between 600-500 BC). When was around twenty years old, he was taken along with four other men to be trained in the Babylonian. At this time, the Babylonian king was experiencing a series of troubling dreams and visions from God that only Daniel could interpret. Daniel helped to bring the people of the Babylonian kingdom closer to God by interpreting God’s messages and preaching them to the citizens of Babylonia. Daniel, after interpreting many dreams, was placed into an extremely significant position within the kingdom. Jealous rivals had him thrown into a den of lions, but he was saved by a group of angels. One of Daniel’s memorable visions was of a great sea stirred up by the winds of heaven. Suddenly, four beasts emerged from this sea. They represented four earthly kingdoms, but in the end a human like creature appeared and was crowned by God. The Lord's message was ‘only the Holy Ones of the most high will receive and possess the kingdom of God forever.’ Daniel helped to bring the people of the Babylonian kingdom closer to God by helping them to understand God's word, and by encouraging them to remain faithful to Him and only Him.

Biblical Comparison of Old Testament and Contemporary Prophets

• “Then Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to execute the wise men of Babylon, and said to him, “Do not execute the wise men of Babylon. Take me to the king, and I will interpret his dream for him.” (Daniel 2:24). Daniel offers to help the king who is experiencing troubling thoughts and dreams by interpreting his thoughts for him, just like the application and work Lucy has done has offered a more positive mentality and a significant sense of clarity from troubled thoughts.

• “As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.” (Daniel 1:17). Daniel is gifted in understanding the dreams and troubles of others, and uses his gift for the greater good to help others. Lucy has an incredible ability to greatly impact the lives of those who are struggling in a modern-day setting, and she uses this gift in order to offer assistance as best as she can to all those around the world who need it.

“Then all the assembly shouted loudly and blessed God, who saves those who hope in him. And they rose against the two elders, for out of their own mouths Daniel had convicted them of bearing false witness; and they did to them as they had wickedly planned to do to their neighbour; acting in accordance with the law of Moses, they put them to death. Thus innocent blood was saved that day.”(Daniel 13: 60-63). Daniel chose to understand, listen to and show compassion to all those who were mistreated, and helped them to feel worthwhile and clear their names of false punishment. The people that worked with Lucy to create the program used their power to reach out to those who were being neglected, ignored and unheard because of their difficulty and troubles. Their aim is to offer support and kindness when there is absolutely none.
