Indoor sauna with electric sauna heater

Traditional saunas are a great option for people who love steam and thrive in higher temperatures. Traditional saunas heat the air itself to induce sweating and provide many health benefits. Some people consider traditional saunas more fun than infrared because you can pour water over the heated sauna rocks to increase temperature and steam in the room.

Infrared sauna with stereo system build-in

Infrared saunas are a great option for people who prefer lower temperatures with more body-penetrating heat. With the same health benefits of a traditional sauna, infrared technology allows for a more directed experience. The best part? Infrared saunas come with an integrated stereo system!

Our saunas are made with the best red cedar wood which will quickly heat and maintain temperature for hours. After heating the sauna, the Red Cedar will emanate an ever so subtle scent of the forest. Not to mention, the beautiful wood contains natural resins and oils that will help resist stains, discoloration and help keep the sauna clean. It will be the perfect backyard escape for your home.

Colors: Renowned for its beautiful color variation, the cedar can be mellow amber, a gorgeous cinnamon or rich sienna brown. With the warm coloring, the Canadian red cedar will complimented by its uniform, fine-grained texture and satin luster finish.

Aroma: With a reputation almost entirely on its distinct aroma alone, the red cedar’s aroma is not only pleasant but has the ability to protect natural fibers such as wool and cotton from those pesky insects.

Dimension Stability: Being the lightest and the softest, cedars are the coolest for the sauna and are easiest to warm up.

Workability: With its straight grain and uniform texture, the red cedar is the easiest wood to work with. It takes it all: it takes fasteners without splitting and is easily sawn and nailed; it takes a fine finish in all hand and machine operations. When looking for the best wood for sauna – red cedar is the way to go.

Natural Preservative: With the scent of the forest, the red cedar will certainly be giving off some natural resin to not only help with relaxing in the sauna, but to keep it clean.

Flame Spread and Smoke Development Ratings: The red cedar meets all safety classifications and does not require any extra preservative treatments.

We source all of our sauna wood sustainably and in a way that promotes sustainable forest management. Our sauna wood is endorsed through the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). We promise that our saunas are not only well-built, but environmentally responsible as well.

Canadian Hemlock or Red Cedar

Once you’ve chosen between a traditional sauna and an infrared sauna, it is time to choose your wood type. While all of our wood offerings are excellent for sauna use, each one has unique qualities.

Canadian Red Cedar

Considered to be one of the most beautiful types of wood for its light reddish color, Canadian red cedar saunas are a fine addition to any home. Red cedar is naturally anti-fungal and resilient to decay, making this the optimal choice for outdoor saunas. Its enchanting, light aroma creates a pleasant experience. Lighter in weight than hemlock, red cedar is extremely strong for its weight, though not as difficult to move. This sturdy wood also endures changes in temperature and can sit comfortably in increased temperatures.

Canadian Hemlock

Though less striking in appearance than red cedar, hemlock’s light, clean color is beautiful in its own right and will fit in with any home decor. Hemlock lumber is resistant to damage, shrinking, and twisting, and can comfortably receive constant exposure to heat and moisture without losing its strength, smooth texture, and stability. Hemlock is also incredibly resistant to wear and has a long usage life compared to many other woods, which crack and split after a few years of use. Hemlock is a great choice for the long haul! Hemlock has special properties of its own--non-allergenic, non-toxic, and having a minimal wood aroma, it is especially great for people with allergies.

The first step in choosing your ideal sauna is to choose the type: traditional, or infrared? Both are great options and provide the same health benefits. The difference lies in the method of heating. Traditional saunas use an electric heater that heats the air, whereas infrared saunas use infrared panels that heat the body itself. Below are comparisons between the two types of sauna to help you find your perfect sauna!

What’s great about infrared saunas?

Infrared technology works similar to how the sun heats the body, but without harmful UV exposure. The effect is a body-penetrating heat that provides the same amount of sweating, loosening, and relaxation, but at a lower temperature than a traditional sauna.

Traditional saunas heat the air to increase temperature, whereas infrared saunas heat the body itself to raise internal temperature. With low humidity and a lower ambient temperature than traditional saunas--typically 124-140 degrees--infrared saunas appeal to people who wish to stay inside the sauna longer and who don’t care for steam.

The best part? Each ALEKO infrared sauna comes with an integrated stereo system.

What’s great about traditional saunas?

Traditional saunas are a great option for people who love steam and thrive in higher temperatures. Typically set at 150-185 degrees, electric saunas raise body temperature through external ambient heat to induce sweating and improve circulation, loosen the body, flush toxins, and create an environment suitable for deep relaxation.

Control the interior conditions of the sauna with the heated sauna rocks--using the wooden bucket and ladle provided with each sauna kit, pour water over the hot rocks to increase humidity and temperature. Pouring water over the rocks is both fun and functional--infuse the water with essential oils for aromatherapy, make the room more comfortable, moisten the nasal passages, and more.

Health benefits of sauna

The time and energy it takes to go to the gym or spa can deter even the best of us from accessing the amazing health benefits that saunas offer. Having a personal, at-home sauna removes that obstacle and encourages regular sauna use, which translates to better health and an improved quality of life.

Not only does sauna heat flush toxins and relax muscles and joints, but it also relieves stress and cleanses the skin. Did you know that the average person loses a pint of sweat during a sauna session? Not to mention, regular sauna use keeps the heart healthy and extends life! What’s not to love?

Set the mood and create unforgettable moments while getting healthy!

Infrared Sauna Detoxification

Sweating is the body’s safe and natural way to heal itself and stay healthy. Through sweating, we strengthen the immune system, eliminate excess toxins, and improve internal functions such as circulation. Infrared sauna detoxification occurs through heating the body directly, which causes a rise in core temperature. The result? A deep, detoxifying sweat at the cellular level where toxins reside.

"Detoxification is important because it strengthens the body’s immune system and helps the body’s biochemical processes function efficiently so that we are better able to digest the nutrients in our foods. Detoxification has also been shown to be helpful with colitis, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, auto-immune disease, immune deficiency states, autism, ADD and ADHD." -Dr. Rachel West
