Girls and boys sports at Leigh are not equal.I used the sport softball and baseball as an example of inequality and used these two students in my AVID class who play the two sports and asked them the following questions:
1.Do you think Softball and Baseball are treated the same?
2.Do you get new equipment?
3.Do you think girls and boys sports are treated the same?
4.Did you change your view on equality between girls and boys sports at Leigh because of the sport you play?
5.Do you like the sport?
6. Does your team ask for new equipment a lot?
When I interviewed Evan he had mixed emotions about the equality between girls and boys sports. 1.Do you think Softball and Baseball are treated the same?: NO because boys get more equipment and money. 2.Do you get new equipment?: Yes .6. Does your team ask for new equipment a lot?:I can't fully say that but we do get new practice jersey's every year so, yeah 3.Do you think girls and boys sports are treated the same?: No because right now boys have more things than girls like new equipment and clothes.4.Did you change your view on equality between girls and boys sports at Leigh because of the sport you play?: Yes (4) 5.Do you like the sport?: Yes! A lot!
I asked Gillian the same question and she had a very strong opinion with the two genders when it comes to inequality between sports. 1.Do you think Softball and Baseball are treated the same?: No, because the boys get more equipment and advertisement than girls. Boys even have more dugouts than girls.2.Do you get new equipment?: NO I have never seen our team get new equipment 6. Does your team ask for new equipment a lot?:We don't ask we just get what we need. 3.Do you think girls and boys sports are treated the same?: No (#2) 4.Did you change your view on equality between girls and boys sports at Leigh because of the sport you play?: No I always thought it wasn't equal 5.Do you like the sport?: Yes I do!
